Auraeus Solito’s “Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” (english title: The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros) is among the 61 submitted entries vying for the 5 top slots that will be officially nominated in the “Best Foreign Language Film” category of the 79th Academy Awards.
Film critic Nathaniel R. from New York City notes Solito’s work as among the gay-themed entries, along with Korea’s period epic The King and the Clown, a gay love triangle set in the Chosun Dynasty. Egypt also has gay characters in the controversial hit Yacoubian Building.
The official nominees will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 5:30 a.m. PST in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
