It’s nearing December once again, and so the infamous Oblation Run is also upcoming! The Oblation Run is an event when members of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO), one of the leading fraternities in the country, run around the University of the Philippines Diliman campus naked. This is also done to protest their sentiments about a current political or economic situation. The Oblation Run started as a prank in 1977 when five members ran on the campus wearing nothing but masks to promote the fraternity-sponsored play, “Hubad na Bayani” (Naked Hero), a political satire on Ferdinand Marcos’ dictatorial rule. Since then, the Oblation run has become a highly anticipated event, attracting hundreds of students and visitors every year.
The Oblation Run is traditionally held on the same day as the Lantern Parade, another spectacular campus event that UP Diliman folks look forward to.
This year, the Lantern Parade is scheduled on Friday, December 15. That means by around after lunch or mid-afternoon of that same day, a number of APO fraternity members will be streaking through Palma Hall. Anyone here interested to watch? Hehehe! (I hope I can watch and take some Oblation Run Photos!)
