Hmmm… parang may kulang sa mga pictures. Parang walang mga dating. Baka naman ‘in person’ meron silang arrive, pero sa pictures, medyo wala. Bukod sa magandang lighting effect sa likod ng bumbunan nila… parang wala na. But that’s just me.

Tsaka bakit nga pala ULTIMATE HUNK? Asan ang hunk?

Usually, sa picture pa lang, you’d see in their eyes kung confident ang bata at may kayang ibuga… or at least magaling silang makipaglaro sa camera. Dito, parang wala ako maramdaman sa pics… except for the skinhead guy. (Parang mahal niya ako, hehehe.) But the rest are… JUST THERE. Sadly, somehow their smiles dont come across. Walang kilig. Walang dating. Walang… hay, wala lang. Parang pictures ng mga kaklase ko sa yearbook nung highschool.

Pero marami din namang tao na maganda sa picture pero kapag nagsalita na… ay ay ay ay! Puwedeng sa picture na lang?

At ang mga hair! Contest ba ito ng fantasy hairdo?

I sincerely hope this batch of STARSTRUCK kids have genuine talent. At kapag sinabing may talent sa:

1. DANCING – Please huwag yung dancing-dancingan na walang ka-gana-gana habang nakatingin sa stage right kasi ginagaya ang choreographer. At huwag puro na lang hip hop — sana may marunong mag-jazz, ballroom, tap-dance, electric boogaloo, ballet or maglalatik. Show us the two-step, the sugarwalk, the barrel-turn, the moon-walk. The works dapat, di ba? Talent search ito eh! Amaze us.

2. SINGING – Sana alam nila ang difference ng “CAN SING A BIT” sa “CAN SING WELL” sa “CAN CARRY A TUNE” sa “WILL TRY TO SING KASI WALA NA AKONG ALAM NA IBANG GAWIN.” Please, even a parrot can sing. But will you actually buy a cd of a parrot singing? (Hmm… on second thought, I probably would.) Kung kakanta, dapat magaling talaga kumanta. Talent search ito eh! Surprise us.

3. ACTING – Please lang no? Eto sasabihin ko na… crying in front of the camera does not make you an actor. Baka ang ibig lang nun sabihin, mababaw ang luha mo o madami kang problema sa life kaya ka iyakin. And crying is not an emotion. If you end up crying while trying to achieve an objective in the scene, that’s okay. But when your objective is to cry, aysus. The contenders should be made to show off their range as actors – let them do comedy, musicals, drama, dance-drama, realism, expressionism, commedia del arte, surrealism, mime. The works! Talent search ito di ba? Impress us.

4. Sana meron din magaling tumugtog ng instruments, kahit kubing man lang o kudyapi. O di kaya magaling mag-paint, macrame o gumawa ng origami. O di kaya magsulat ng tula, essay or something that would require real thinking.

I really hope that this isn’t another BEAUTY CONTEST. Kasi ang dami-dami-dami-dami-dami nang mga ‘artista’ diyan na walang career! Huwag na nating dagdagan.

Itaas natin ang standards ng pagpili. Let’s raise the bar – kahit a few inches lang. Let us not tolerate mediocrity because there is so much mediocrity going around already. Let us not encourage pre-fabricated talents who are poor imitations of other pre-fabricated talents. And I hope these kids joined Starstruck because they really want to follow a dream – to perform, to excel, to share, to shine. And not just to earn a few bucks. Kasi kung mali na ang motivation nila sa pagsali, baka hindi sila magtagal sa industriya —which is very sad. Andun na rin lang ang chance, sana pagbutihan na nila.
