While Misterhubs is my favorite lawyer-gay blogger, Corporate Closet naman is my favorite CEO-gay blogger. I went to school with him (MBA) and was witness to his insightful contributions during case discussions. I see the same thing as I read his blog entries. Recently, he has been writing about parallel issues between those of us in the gay community and those of the girls in Sex And The City. In a recent post, he tackles the issue of relationships between people from different social strata. He says, “i would think that PLU’s (People Like Us) were more egalitarian. or horniness transcends such barriers.” Yet in the end he engages his readers, and challenges his own opinion: “are PLU’s really more egalitarian? what do you think?”

    hmmm… since i count only four individuals who made a comment on this post of Miggs, methinks I’ll throw in “my share in the stew” here. (at least hindi kasing ingay ng mga ibang comments na sobrang dami sa ibang posts, when in reality, many TOTALLY MISS the point of what MIGGS wrote.)

    i TOTALLY DISAGREE with the premise of the question, “are PLU’s really more egalitarian?” in fact, it should not even be asked at all and single out just one group of individuals.

    in the first place, a person’s sexual preference and sexuality are simply part and parcel of the totality of an individual. it doesn’t make sense to say and categorize “PLU’s”, gay men, bisexuals as being different from heteros, straights, breeders etc. we are ALL men, subject to the same weaknesses and biases. it’s simply a matter of SEXUAL choice or circumstance that makes every Tom, Dick and Harry different from one another, but it doesn’t mean they automatically cannot wear the same clothes while walking the same goddamn street!

    the question seems to be no different if i ask “Do GAY MEN have longer penises than STRAIGHT MEN?”; or “Are straight men dumber than gay men?”; or worse, “Can gay men NOT excel in mathematics like a straight man does?” or vice versa?

    i am sorry for the vehemence of this post, but i am angered by the friggin’ stereotyping people put upon each other simply because he thinks he’s different(either better or worse) from the other. the premise of the posted question SMACKS so much of this stereotyping that many of us are trying to veer away from. it’s a step backwards from achieving psychosocial maturity. (tama ba term ko? i just coined it)

    THERE are gay men who are in the mainstream, who chose NOT TO HIDE their sexuality, are NOT CLOSETED but are very much PART of the community called MEN and NOT the COMMUNITY OF GAY MEN or THE COMMUNITY OF STRAIGHT MEN.

    asking questions with premises that would naturally progress into a debate of what makes one group differently BETTER or INFERIOR than the other… gosh, that was exactly how the Aryans proceeded in their great debate that non-Aryans (Jews to be specific) should be annihilated for their inferiority as a race.

    you know what? i am glad i live in this country. that despite of all it’s systematic faults, its corruption, it’s lack of “material progress”, i am able to face people straight in the eye and say, “HEY PARE. BAKLA AKO – DISENTE, MAKATAO. IBA PANANAW KO. IBA PANANAW MO. PERO KAIBIGAN KITA, KABABAYAN. HINDI NAIIBA SA IYO. LALAKI RIN. MAGLAKAD TAYO NG SABAY SA DAAN.”

    salamat. and i do hope… and fervently pray, that a day would come when all men, regardless of difference, beliefs, sexual orientation, would achieve true equality and respect for differences.

    i tip my hat to you mr. miggs for providing such a forum with free exchange of ideas and thoughts.

    Sorry, sexual orientation is not part of the equation on being an egalitarian. It depends on the person and his view on life. I thank you.

    When it comes to serious relationships, I believe this is a matter of emotions, what exactly you feel toward the person! Languages, economic status, academic backgrounds or any sort of classifications become less important. It is no longer an issue. However, if it’s purely carnal I would admit, what sort of class he is, as long as he makes me drools. Why not?! In this case, I could say PLUs are egalitarian. Corprate Closet is right! Our sexual appetite transcends that barrier.
    But it is true, for those PLU’s who has achieved so much, it’s really difficult to find that elusive someone. It’s just like saying the more you have to offer, the more difficult it seems to find the person who is right for you. I think so, or I don’t think so. It’s a social norm, that we should settle with our equal.
