   Saw an article the other day, the writer said, Danilo (the victim) should at least be thankful to the doctors who removed the tin can from his anus.

   Why should he be thankful for? For the humiliation he got after the video was passed around? Yeah right!@#$

   Even if he did not pay for the operation, still the government has funding for that (if that was a government owned hospital) so why should he be thankful in the first place!

   I wonder how much was paid to the writer to write such a thing!

   The Dept of Health has named 3 Doctors and 2 Nurses involved in the said operation. Its all over the paper today.

   So what if they are named, when will they be charged? Ano naman ikkaso sa kanila?

   I read a follow up article in inquirer.net, regarding this incident. I was thinking of this while walking home after work: Desperate Housewives…
   Remember when a lot our our kababayans in US complained the unfair comment that Terry Hatcher made in one of the episodes of Season 4??? Remember how disgusted we (I) were when she said that Filipinos are not fit as doctors (to that effect)… Don’t this incident just proves how true that comment can be??? This might be an isolated case, however this should not be dealt lightly as this implies how weak our justice system, professional ethics and substantially our morality is.

   i guess we have learned some lessons on respect from both ends of this story. on the side of the doctors who handled the operation: respect the rights of your patients and respect the oath you’ve sworn into when you entered this noble profession. and from the side of the patient: respect your body. gay or straight, i guess it’s common sense and sound judgment to desist from putting any objects that we know would be harmful to us.

   I work as an RN here in california. What happened in that hospital is so degrading. They should not allow so much people inside the OR especially with cellphones. Kung nagkukwetuhan kami ng mga co-nurses ko tungkol sa topic na yan parang ano na ba ang nangyayari sa Pinas. Parang mahirap ikwento sa mga puti.     Thanks for the complement. But I think what has been written are just plain and simple logic and following the golden rules.

    Like what vinnierose have said and what I believe too, that: we don’t have the right na makialam to what other people wanted to put in their body. Rights nila yun as long as you don’t harm others.

    We also don’t have the right to judge or even persecute others on their preferences whether it is religion, sexual orientation and the likes. Buhay nila iyon, but I have already mentioned, just be responsible and brave enough the face the consequences it may produce, good or bad.

    Duon sa mga 4 ladies na nag-comment, e opinion nila iyon, di natin sila mapipilit. ganuon talaga ang buhay, we cannot please everybody. But please do remember what Jesus have said to the people persecuting Mary Magdalene “Sino sa inyo ang walang kasalanan at malinis, ang siyang unang pumukol ng bato si babaing ito”. The problem to most of us, e we don’t admit we have wrong doings, denial baga, and assuming malinis at moral, so how do we expect us or them to change.

    Medyo malayo sa topic, but please i ask everyone look to most of the commentors in this blog. Diba, ang dami comments na may sense and logical, fair and kind. So we can definitely prove to the world that most gay people are kind-hearted, defintely intelligent, logical and fair. Kaya kung lahat tayo ay successful and respectful, I believe respecting gay people will comes naturally, hindi na dapat ipilit sa kahit kanino man. Thanks.

    LESSONS of this story:

    Manufacturers shouldn’t be encouraged to make long tubular body spray containers. Old gay guys oftentimes mistake it for something else especially when thrill gets in the way, when all the lights are off. (I hope it’s not the case of having a poor eyesight, lesson therefore would be “eat more calabasa!”).

    Cellphones shouldn’t be permitted inside the operating room, at least those that have cameras. Medical practitioners can be tempted to take shots of their patients’ unglorious moment, which in turn puts their profession in danger. Holding a camera is not their forte!

    Thou shall not laugh at someone else’s misfortune. Body sprays, like humans, also feel humiliated when parked in places where they’re not welcome. It, literally and figuratively, feels like being stuck in deep shit!

    I sympathize with the gay guy and I don ‘t condone any form of bashing especially of one’s sexual orientation. But, don’t you agree that in the gay community, there are a lot of members who comport themselves in public as screaming, loud, crass, sexually promiscuous etc, that actually gives the straights and the church reasons to look down on us.     @passer_by — maling, maling, mali rin ang reasoning mo. in the first place, it is NOT ethical to video any medical operation or procedure, UNLESS you get a permission from the patient. in this case, a doctor asked him about the video AFTER it was done. he was not aware of the implications.

    secondly, the patient’s baranggay captain knew it was in that hospital because he claims to know the background of the video. one move resulted in another and another…

    what about the one who posted the video? you didn’t say anything about him/her. mali din di ba?

    this is such a tragedy to all of us…
    here’s my take on this issue:
    1) we should really not care about what the guy shove up his ass (it is his ass and he have all the right putting whatever he wants to put in it), in reality, what happened is a general insult to all of us. Come to think of it there has been a lot of instances that people put something in their orifice (watch Ripley’s, House M.D., what made these people decide to record it is that they find it funny. Hey the Gay community has been ridiculed ever since Filipinos started to walk! This is just an example that WE should always carry ourselves the best way we can.

    2) I am disgusted that Doctors would do it to a patient. Come on, I am sure that 90% of our population dreamed of becoming a doctor when we were kids, thinking that is is the best and most revered occupation. This just shows how our moral standards deteriorates as we become more technological.

    I fell sorry for the guy, he did not use his brain before putting that ‘thing’ up his anus.

    But more importantly, I feel sorry for those people who recorded it. They have no respect, sound moral judgment and shame. Digital na ang karma, bai!

On the video the people were guffawing and laughing their hearts out and were saying things that were very offensive like baby out and putting in back the canister. How can passer_by say that there was no malice? The fact stands that the doctors and nurses acted way out of line and unprofessionally. I heard that Cebu doctors are good but this incident has put a big stain on the health care here in the Philippines….shame

    I’ve just watched the video.

    First, I think we have to give a benefit of the doubt to the patient. We really don’t know how that thing was inserted through his anus. I mean, is it really true that he is drunk, so he didn’t know what is being inserted to his anus? or is it with his consent? Only the patient knew about it. Kasi if with his consent, I think there is no one to blame but him per se. Please don’t make me wrong, I know everyone has their right to do what they want but I think we also have to be responsible for the consequences.

    Second: for the doctors and nurses, yes, i agree what they did was wrong. No excuses can be made. Im also in the medical field pero hindi dapat ganuon ang attitude nila kahit rare pa yung case, they can smile or tumawa but not that loud, sobra talaga. But in the footage that I saw, the patient face nor even parts of the body that will pertain to him were not shown, only the anus which we all have, kahit balat or ano mang marks e di nakita. So in the first place, why does he have to admit na siya yung nasa footage?, mayroon ba siyang ibang intensyon of doing it? Only the patient can answer this one too.

    Third: Sa Philippines or even other parts of the world lalo na sa middle east, third sex are not that accepted yet or should not exist at all. We have to admit, na kahit papaano, mayroon pa rin discrimination. I agree with one of the commentor, marami pa rin kasing gay na pasayaw. I’ve mentioned this before, na kung walang gagawin ang mga gay kundi gumewang at kumenbot kung lumakad, mag flip ng mga daliri, manghada ng manghada, mag ingay at humalakhak ng humalakhak, how do we expect others to respect us. Sige nga, kung PLU will behave properly kahit mahinhin, at maging mayaman lahat o may pusisyon sa lipunan, tignan ko lang kung hindi lahat ng lalaki maging babae e magpanggap na sila ay gay kahit hindi. Ano sa tingin nyo? Yes, marami na namang magsasabi, “wala akong pakialam sa sasabihin ng iba at gagawin ko lahat ang gusto ko”, don’t you think u r being selfish and irresponsible, for sure marami talagang madadamay.

    So comment lang ha, bato bato sa langit, tamaan wag magagalit, look muna tayo sa uling sa ating mukha before we poke someone. Wag naman tayong masyadong pasayaw, let us respect ourselves first before we can ask others to do the same thing for us.

    Actually, what really irked me when I read this on the paper was the breach of patient-doctor confidentiality– the subtle gay bashing was just icing to the cake. As far as I know, the patient filed a formal complaint against all those involved, although I really doubt anything good will come of it. Most of the time, imbes na maawa ung mga tao sa mga gay victims, nagiging laughing stock pa.

    I work in the same hospital and operating room where the operation happened but luckily it happened not in my shift. Like most of you I also believe that there was a breach of privacy because it was video recorded, passed around and was later uploaded to the internet. The guy is not old–he is only in his early 30’s. It happened last January. According to him he had drinking session with other guys and woke up feeling uncomfortable in that part. AFter several days of trying to get it out, he finally got the balls to ask for help. It was an easy minor operation but if they can’t get it out by pulling it through the anus they have to open him and open his large intestines to get the tube. We don’t often have these kinds of freak operations. So because of the novelty of the operation people wanted to witness how it is done. Those people inside the operating room are just human. It was a mistake but no malice was intended. They talked about the operation not the sexuality of the person and were finally relieved to see the canister come out. No part of his face was shown in the video; only his anus. I can’t help to wonder why he had to claim to all people that that was him in the video when he knows that it is going to put him in greater shame. Answer? Self-respect? Justice? Wanted to correct a wrong thing done to him? —why the hospital? he should find the guy who stuck that to his anus first if he wants justice before suing the hospital and doctors who operated on him pro bono. Later, after it was aired by the local channel. He expresed interest in accepting bayad for the damages done to him by the video. Ewan talagang parang maling maling mali.

    what am station are you listening to? with the kind of commentators they have this station doesn’t deserve a single ear. hope you could publish the name of the station & the commentators as well so we could boycott them. broadcasters are expected to be neutral on every issue. not only with gender issues. that’s in the code of ethics for broadcast-journalism. i hope they keep this in mind. i believe that’s one of the good things we can do for the man who was attacked & hurt of this comment.

    Which is worse : the medical staff who took a video of this guy or those of us who make fun of him and leave reckless comments on this blog?

    The poor guy is a victim 4 times over.

    First,based on the report from the Cebu Daily News, the Black Suede tin can was forced into this man’s anus by a callboy who felt insulted when this guy purportedly made snide remarks about the callboy’s small sexual organ.

    Second, the VSMMC staff jeered, made fun of, and without this guy’s consent videotaped him.

    Third, we jeer and make more fun of him through this blog.

    And fourth, reports from the Cebu Daily News today say that he had been threatened by those who are now being held liable for the surfacing of the video. Sad. Sad indeed.

    And yes, think of the trauma this guy will have to endure for the rest of his life.

    But having said that, I can almost see a rejoinder to my comment to the tune of: what do we care?

    IT: I agree that the issue would have been about the patient’s rights if the main point of Denver’s letter or of this post was about what happened (and what happened after) to the poor guy, but it wasn’t. I agree that what the hospital staff did was deplorable. I don’t think anyone will say otherwise. It was a bad situation made worse…. but one must realize that this isn’t about gay rights in particular. This is just regular patient’s rights.

    The question though was if society is ready to accept homosexuals and you have to admit that his incident (unfortunate as it is) does not really help in improving people’s views of gay men. Don’t get me wrong, I am not condemning the victim, I feel sorry for him and would definitely try to help him if I knew him.

    Its really fortunate for me that my straight peers, as in my friends and my officemates, are being very open, tolerant and accepting on me being gay. paano ko nasabi, kasi pinakita ko sa kanila yung video. Their first comment is not all about “kung paano nagkaroon ng deodorant can sa wetpaks ng guy” but all about sa “napaka-unprofessional ng mga doctors and medical persons sa OR at ginawa nilang laughing stock yung case nung patient.” It is maybe out of respect of me or they were already matured enough to accept us, gay people. Whatever the case, i feel very fortunate on opening to them.

    I think the old gay guy made a mistake of using a deodorant can for his pleasure, but I think the doctors should’ve been professional about it.     Our society today is more open, tolerant, accepting (choose the term you’re most comfortable with) with persons of different sexual orientations. But I don’t think it can ever come to terms with men (or women) sticking deodorant tin can in his anus. It’s one thing to be gay; it’s another thing to be “tanga”.

No normal thinking gay would insert something, let alone a deodorant tin, just because he is horny at that time and no one’s there to do the things he want. The young man had to undergo an operation, and the freaking entire operating staff shot footage on celphones and posted it on the internet. The problem was he later found (after 4 months)that his operation has been recorded by a cellphone video and has been scattered already, he was informed that it was even uploaded sa youtube…

    his Christian name for the simple reason that he is gay and, instead, call him “bakla or
    bayot”, which only confirms the unpleasant fact that countless people in this world of
    plasticity have never accepted gays as their absolute equals – which also reinforces the
    belief that these same indifferent people are downright immature and, therefore, need to be
    re-educated.

    Homosexuality as a gender orientation is something to be proud of, but having women who do not know
    how to wash their vagina after urinating and changing their panty as many times as I do is something
    I cannot accept! Nor can I respect women who still cling to their partners despite the battery they

    I am not only seething with madness. I am showing pity towards them for they have never

    I have seen that on the news. Medical professionals taking vidoe of the operation and guffawing at the revealed item taken from the operation. I feel for the patient as his privacy was so violated. The guy can really sue those in the hospital. The medical proffesionals were such a mess reacting like a bunch of loose mad cow.

    As for the subject of the scandal, I agree that he shold have had more control. I mean, he should have known what he was getting into. So this reminds us that we should all still be careful. I really don’t see that as a gender issue. It was more of a patient’s privacy and of responsible acts.

    Let me restate that story…

    The incident happen last January (as reported in the news) I think most of you hear about Danilo (not his real name) a gay guy from Cebu who underwent an operation at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital here in Cebu. Apparently, he hired a call boy that stupidly put this deodorant tin can inside is anus. He was operated last January.

    A week ago, a video of his operation spread like wildfire around the net and on the cellphones. You can still actually see it in youtube.

    I feel sad for this guy. And after what happened to him, people still had the nerve to judge him like that? Those stupid doctors should be stripped with their licensed for spreading the video!

    [1] Why use a deodorant tin can in the first place?
    [2] What people say in public may not necessarily reflect what they really, honestly feel. Sometimes they say things just to agree with the majority. Sometimes they say things because they want to protect an image they want to project.
    [3] I find the second and third comments offensive. The second is a hasty generalization of all gays, and the third states that families should be ashamed of gays.
    [4] I don’t think it’s necessary to defend the old man in public. Kasi naman even among gay men, we’d disagree over what he did. Some will say, “Leave him with his deodorant spray!” Others will say, “Good lord, one can buy a reasonably priced dildo these days!”

    although our society in general is not ready, i think it’s safe for me to assume that it slowly becoming is. we here in the Philippines are already lucky enough to have enough means of communicating our identity as homosexuals compared to our neighboring countries.

    i read this article before written by an American. and he goes on explaining why he thinks that being gay in the Philippines is so much better than being gay in the US, given that the US labeled itself as “the Land of the Free”.

    Having said this, true. gay marriages and same sex adoptions may not be legal here in the country (blame it also on the fact that the Church has a strong voice), but i do think that i’m lucky to live here in the Philippines.

    case in point: homosexuality is deemed a crime in other countries. sodomy may even lead you to a death sentence.

    that said. i’m already happy that i can hold hands with my boyfriend in the mall without having to worry what others may think.
