Reader Denver bemoans society’s unreadiness in accepting gays, and does a mea culpa for not standing up for a poor fellow gay guy. I like it that he’s a thinking gay guy — but do you agree with his opinion? I imagine a healthy discussion ensue among us here on this issue. Be open, be introspective, ponder and then tell us what you think.
Migs,
Wala lang, share ko lang sayo thought ko…
Just this morning, I overheard in the am radio news about an old gay guy who was rushed to the hospital because of constipation. After the doctors checked on him, a deaodorant tin can was found inside his anus.
As the news was being broadcast, I heard different opinions from people/co-workers around me. There were 4 of them, all women in their early 40’s
“Ano ba yan, ang tanda tanda na, hinde marunong magcontrol!”
“Ganyan talaga mga bayot! Akala siguro nya masasarapan sya.”
“Bakit ba ang daming bayot sa lipunan? Kung kamag-anak ko yan, baka kinahiya na sya ng angkan.”
“Talaga maraming bayot. Minsan nga di mo aakalain na bayot kc anlalaki ng katawan, yun pala malambot ang puso.”
This incident shows us that gay people are not yet accepted in the society. It will be long before that happens. That also explains why a lot of gay people would prefer to go “underground” because they know that society will never accept them (in this lifetime)
I dont know why people are very narrow minded on the said subject. Why do we always have to label ourselves? Maybe because that’s what society and the church has thought us, or maybe both the male and the female species are afraid that the so called “in-between” might be a superior race than them?
It all boils down to having self-respect. If you respect yourself, you have to respect other people as well, no matter what their sex or race is. We are all created by only one creator, and no matter who we are, or what we are, we are still human beings, who needs love and affection.
I felt bad about the incident. I felt bad about the old gay guy. He’s already hurt, and people around him (people that dont know him) still continued to hurt him emotionally.
I felt bad that I did not speak up in behalf of the old gay guy.
I still say this is not yet the time. Society is not ready!
