In a few moments, ayun na. Just like what happens in the movies. There he was. Approaching yours truly, like a phantom in glowing white long-sleeved polo. Agent Boytoy, Pinoy blogosphere’s ultimate mystery boytoy, the desire of his every gay reader, my secret crush, my dream date — now in the flesh. Half-smiling, right in front of me.
I asked, “Agent?”
He answered, “Yes. Migs?”
I can’t remember how I responded. I was starstruck. The song echoed in my ears.
Anything your heart desires,
Will come to you.
Indeed, he did.
Next thing I knew, we were seated, face-to-face, just the two of us — the phenomenal Agent Boytoy and Migs the Manila Gay Guy — in a dinner date I will never, ever forget.
Like a diesel engine, we both were slow starters. Kailangan ng konting warm up. While Agent and I were having dinner, we were also trying to get more comfortable with each other’s presence. Nung umpisa medyo maraming awkward silences, dead air, nagkakapaan pa (ay!)… we were seated right in front of each other pero parang anlayo-layo namin sa isa’t isa. But as the dinner proceeded, unti-unti na kaming nare-relax, nagkakalapit. In the process marami din kaming napagkuwentuhan.
At one point he said, “I invited you for dinner because…” [pause]
In that short pause, parang tumigil ang mundo ko for 48 years! He invited me for dinner because — because he loved me?! because gusto niya akong anakan?! because we’re better off as one?! Andami ko ng naisip! Kaso itinuloy niya:
“I invited you for dinner because… I wanted to thank you for reading my blog, and for featuring it at MGG.
Kaya naman after one-kembot-and-a-half, I answered back:
“Ganun ba Agent?
After dinner, we decided to hang out at theal fresco area of the hotel. Tuloy ang kuwentuhan, this time, I felt we were both quite comfortable with each other. He started talking about his work, his family, his friends… doon ko mas nakilala si Agent Boytoy bilang tao, and not just as the writer and character in his blog. The more I got convinced that he is a very interesting person. Haaay, be still my heart! Bawal landiin.” Up to that point winner pa rin ako dahil nasusunod ko pa si Madam Konsensiya. But not for long!
Dumiskarte ako: “Ahmmm… Agent, do you want to grab something to drink? Maybe somewhere else?”
In a few moments, we were in my car. Just Agent Boytoy and I, intimate and alone — surrounded by the darkest of dark, heavily-tinted windows of my car.
