I was very touched by the early part of the story. That this IS possible, that we are equals. But the update was shocking. I could not help but weep. Three years in a relationship… ano na nangyari kay Ka Jose? Life is sooo short. Communist, Marxist, Leftist, Purist, whatever, what does this story tell us?
Just imagine, nasa bundok kayo para sa pinaglalaban nyo, tapos nagmahal ka ng ‘bawal’ pero tinaggap ka ng mga kasama mo. Nirespeto ang kasal nyo. Til death do us part.

Heartbreaking.

It's hard to swallow that the affirmation of gay marriage is rooted in the communist ideology of the NPA. First off, gay rights is not first in the minds of the NPA. It's eyes are set on achieving armed struggle, and towards that end, luring gay radicals to their camp is more of a pragmatic means to achieve that end.

Nowhere in communist ideology would you find gay rights at the forefront of their issues. And evolving to include gay rights in the struggle isn't a sign of ideological acceptance but merely an adaptation of the realities on the ground - the apparent homosexuality of men and the need to have them.

I don’t believe in NPA ideology, but I do believe that its affirmation of gay rights is in line with that ideology. First of all, the ideology following Mark also believes that religion is the opium of society, so the question about religious morality is not relevant. Second, it is supposed to give voice to the ‘oppressed’ of society and it wants to recognize the gay sector is one of those marginalized. What makes its acceptance of gay rights revolutionary is that even gender issues have been relegated to the margins by Marxism. At some point in the past, and perhaps still in the present, the communist hierarchy had been sexist and blind to the realities of oppresion experienced by both women and gays.

I do think that the comments here which say that the NPA was just being too pragmatic by affirming gay rights is “mababaw”. It could be both pragmatic and ideological.

Of course, the most fundamental issue is one that concerns armed struggle. I don’t think that it is the way forward. Social transformation without deep recognition of structures of limitations is bound to fail. For me, change still needs to come from within the system. Attack the system from inside, not outside. Change may be slower, but could be more effective.

the love, sincerity and courage of both, and the progressive stance of the NPA are exemplary which can certainly be applauded and appreciated. but, the many problems posed by the NPA in order to advance their ideology can't be dismissed that easily. both the NPA and the government armies have casualties and victims in defense of their philosophies and politics. it is a dilemma for most of us who are spectators to their battles. i understand the aims and struggles of the NPA but at the same time i also know that the world have yet to see a truly equal and successful socialist or communist society. russia and other previous block countries are great examples of its failure. cuba and north korea are also NOT shining examples of the communist ideology because of enumerable inequalities and sufferings of their citizenries. even china is embracing more and more of the capitalist system. despite the politics however, both jose and andres deserve our congratulations and best wishes.

Mga bakla eh bat ba kayo nai-insekyurera sa mga NPA. Buti pa nga ang NPA tinatanggap tayo eh. No ba yan damn if you do damn if you don’t. It just shows that in some sub culture like for example what the communist believes, there is such thing as equality mga badet.
