Rustom Padilla at the 2008 Urian Awards Night

In that much celebrated coming-out scene in a Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition episode, Rustom said “I have no choice, I am gay… but hindi ako masamang tao…” He knew of his sexual preference even when he was young, manifesting it by playfully wearing girl’s clothes which his father saw one time and which angered him of course. His mom, Eva Cariño, berated him as well, it was said.

Then, cut to…

During this year’s Urian Awards, where he presented the Best Actor Award, Rustom with nary a care for what other people might say, proudly displays his real self, the girl within. You go, gurl! Hehehe!

    I could not remember if there was any other actor who came out before turning 50 and hopes to make it big.  If he is truly the first filipino actor, I hope he does well.  My all-out support to him. 

    Kakaloka ang mga comments on the outfit.  I’m sure ang hirap pumili ng first gown to wear on such an occassion.  He did parade with a pink gown on a float during the MMFF ZsaZsa Zaturrnah film but this one’s different.  Syempre, lait sa lahat.  But it’s not just the gown, it’s that attitude, that confidence to stand there, regardless.

    In an interview at the backstage of Urian, sabi naman nya, warm-up na nya yun for his (with respect to his real physical gender–may “lawit” pa yan.) upcoming project movie na may crossdressing theme ba… Ok, he even said na “simula pa lang ito…”

    No need to ask, nor to block Rustom whatever he wants to do…

    Shit, pantasya ko pa naman dati si Rustom. I was happy to see him come out, partly because he’s happy with himself and partly ‘coz I thought we finally have an atypical gay representative in the media, yun pala beyond femme s’ya. As much as some baklang ‘paminta’ annoy me (usually the ones who are so contrived it comes across as self-hating and homophobic), wala bang baklang neutral-acting (NOT straight-acting, I hate that term) sa Pinas? Yung out ha? Para balanse naman. Not all gays are femme. And, btw, not all cross-dressers want to be a woman, some are even straight. Not speaking from experience, ha, ha, but I know post-op and pre-op people. They’re called ’special girls’, at least the pre-op ones, not sure about the post-op, at least in the U.S.

    man that’s brave of him on two things–to come out on stage in drag and two, to come out oln stage in that, uhm, awful, awful drag. wahahahahahaha!!! gosh sana man lang kumuha ng stylist. or beter yet, he shoulda just worn a gown. yung frou-frou para all out talaga.

    he was my school mate in grade school, he’s 1 year ahead of me.. We used to play volleyball and other games a lot..
    When he entered showbiz i knew it would be hard for him to hide his bones inside the closet..
    when he came out i celebrated! at last he’s free!!!
