Hi red! i love hearing your story. its full of honesty, risk and maybe love :) but pls be careful going into a relationship with students next time, you are still lucky this is not USA. if people knew you were breaking the student-teacher ethics, trust me you will be put on a headline on a CNN tv for such acts. it is important that you maintain professionalism at its best standard because that is how your students will look up to you. take care always

This is the stupidest letter I've ever read. I'm also a teacher, and a gay one, and everything in this letter reeks

Young teachers are especially vulnerable to falling for their students, but no matter how much you romanticize, rationalize, or particularize it, it's wrong. It's a cultural more, we aren't in ancient Greece, and in the current culture, it's just wrong. No two ways about it. The least you could have done was waited until they were no longer your students before taking any steps beyond a purely professional relationship. As the older authority figure, it is your responsibility to maintain the code of conduct that you agreed to when you signed your school's employment contract. What's truly disturbing about this story is your apparent lack of remorse. I hope that you think twice, thrice, a hundred times before allowing yourself to get too close to your students again (that's where it begins, right?). If you're lonely, find friends of your own age and status. You can expect a certain amount of support from your students, allow them to know a tiny bit of your personal life (just so they see that you're human too) but nothing beyond that. I hope you find the happiness that you deserve. Peace!

I just love the sheer honesty of this account. It made me reminisce my own experience although in a different setting and theme…. Anyhow, whether Red is a teacher or not it is indeed part of an expected Teacher’s code to restrict Teacher-student relationship. But I am not casting the first stone on him nor would I frown on his doings. After all regradless of profession, it falls between consenting adults on how to lead a productive relationship that would not jeopardize the institution or their relation that matters. Besides teacher-student realtionship is a time-tested sitaution that could not undeniably happen in one way or another. It is thru this that homosexuality was first described — Greek Love.

My point is not whether Aristotle or Plato had initimate relations with their students or any Greek philosopher or mentor for that matter, it is any profession that directly pushes the bounadries of intimacy is prone to staging such a relationship. It now falls between this two individuals to make certain that the risk of their relationship would not distort the dynamics of the campus.

to be frank, i think you are a very weak person. as a teacher, you broke the trust and professionalism that was intrusted to you by seeking emotional and sexual comfort with your students. from what i learned about you from your letter, personally, i wouldn't want you to be my teacher or lover.
