The pope’s alleged ‘homophobic attack’
Entry Feed Trackback
VATICAN CITY (AFP) – - A suggestion by Pope Benedict XVI that homosexuality is as much of a threat to the survival of the human race as climate change sparked outrage among gay rights campaigners on Tuesday. [Source / Photo by Yahoo]
There is no direct quote from Pope Benedict XVI that is clearly homophobic, so I do not think we should take it as a real attack. Knowing the Catholic doctrine though, I am not really surprised that the Pope disapproves of the assumed typical homosexual lifestyle. It’s Christmas, and today more than ever, I pray that the pope is blessed with the grace of universal love. And I pray for us all for the same thing. May we all learn to love everyone regardless of age, gender, and race. Being anti-anything is so yesterday. Love, love, love. And gratitude. World Peace!

hello there migs. pretty surprising that after some time of NOT being in Cyberlandia… you’re back. And new look eh?
you know what? this is much more simple and easier to track than the design you had prior to this one. especially for technological dinosaurs such as yours truly.
nice to know you’re back.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

oh and incidentally, lemme comment a bit.
i saw you have placed a “posts category” section on the right side of this window. how come there’s no section for “ART”? you mentioned that you “write about anything a gay guy like me would be interested in”, then i would assume the visual art would have to be part of that list. you have sections for literature, movies, music and the tv media… but sigh, none for art.
in all art exhibits that i’ve been to, seen and visited, the pink market has a stronghold. maybe it’s time, since you are (according to your intro) the “Manila Gay Guide”, that particular topic be given a bit more space here. if you want a more wholistic site for more of the “thinking” gay people to congregate in… open your categories a bit more to those topics that such types be interested in.
just a thought. cheers!

‘Self-destruction’
Pope Benedict made the comments in an end-of-year speech to senior Vatican staff.
Defending God’s creation was not limited to saving the environment, he said, but also about protecting man from himself.
It was not “out-of-date metaphysics” to “speak of human nature as ‘man’ or woman’”, he said. It came from the “language of creation, despising which would mean self-destruction for humans”.
Gender theories, he said, led to man’s “auto-emancipation” from creation and Creator.
“Rain forests deserve, yes, our protection but the human being… does not deserve it less,” he said.

His face scares me- he looks like the Emperor Palpatine of Star Wars.
Organized religion is on it’s way out (it’ll take a while though). People are getting enlightened to the fact that they are becoming more aware how destructive and divisive religion is, especially fundamentalism. It is trying to make itself relevant by spewing this poisonous dogma.

Just because someone, a person or a group of people, placed him in a “Position of Power” doesn’t mean he deserves everyone’s respect…2cents

migs, I take back what i said. its not a joke! We don’t choose to be white or black, male or female, left-handed or right-handed, gay or straight. We awaken in each instance to the reality of what we are. Nothing external to our humanity activates our self-understanding. It simply is. Alcohol distorts life for the alcoholic. Homosexuality does not distort the life of the gay person. Your pastor’s understanding is simply one more version of the idea that homosexuality is a sickness or addiction that needs to be cured if possible and if not possible, it needs to be suppressed. Wholeness never came to anyone who tried to suppress his or her deepest identity. happy new year!
Reza at Dec 27, 08 at 10:25 pm
comparing homosexuality to climate change is very homophobic in my opinion. even if a lot of people would disagree with me, you can’t deny that what the pope said could very well fuel more guiltless gay bashing incidents by people who consider themselves ‘religious’.

Very well said Reza, very well said.

Let us just face the fact at present, acceptance of being gay is a long way off. At most, we can say tolerance of what we do.
