Cagbalete Island Chikahan
Entry Feed TrackbackI’m writing this post while waiting for my flight here at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. I just can’t leave Manila, especially you who have been regularly (perhaps secretly) visiting this humble little green blog, my online abode, without sharing with you what transpired during that long Holy Week respite.
Together with 6 friends, I drove 4.5 hours through the break of dawn and that stretch down south of Luzon to that quaint little town of Mauban in Quezon province. another 45-minute boat ride and we reached a rustic island that is Cagbalite (others spell it Cagbalete). It was such a welcome change because the past several years saw me party through the Holy Week in places like Puerto Galera and Boracay. This year was different, as we decided to rediscover what true “rest and relaxation” means, with the help of this secret little place called Cagbalite.
The “rest and relaxation” mood is quite palpable when you listen to the following fabcast which we (Gibbs, Mcvie, AJ, and I plus 3 surprise guests) recorded on our 2nd evening on the island. Gibbs even describes this as our “low key” podcast; if our past rowdy-ish fabcasts are Regine Velasquez, this one would be Kyla, or even Sitti, hehehe!
In this 2-part fabcast, we answer questions from our 3 surprise guests. We talked about sacrifices for love, dealing with challenges common among us gay folks, and life regrets. How so Holy Week-ish dabah!? Kase naman we recorded right on Good Friday!
Before you dive into the fabcast, I’ll let you in on a more or less private joke we shared during the podcast recording. During our stay on the island, we met 2 guys (they are locals, and are brothers) who we unanimously thought as the ultimate island souveneir (charoz!). Ang guguwapo. They are servers in the resort we stayed, and at night they double as the resident masseurs din! Dennis, the older brother at 19y.o., is also the finer looking one. I have pictures of him — shirtless, and in trunks. If you promise to be good I’ll post those pics here. Hehehe!
For now, listen to the fabcast after which we’ll ogle at the island boy’s yummy pics. Goooo!

hmph! naunahan na kami sa guesting!
si jay, nakakatuwa magtanong. intelihente ang language pero tunog-bata. parang batang nanghihingi ng wisdom sa mga lola nyang nagngangalang Fabcasters.
re: sacrifice in the name of love— kaya nga diba, we don’t get in a relationshp because it will make us whole, but because we are whole enough that we are able to share. one only loses a part of himself when he doesn’t know who he reaaly is, what he wants, what he is willing to give, and what he wants to preserve.
i agree with most of your responses to the anxieties question. happiness doesn’t is not a question of circumstances, but how one, gay or not, is able to view them. what one refers to as lonesomeness is single-blessedness to another.
“My happiness doesn’t depend on others. I make my own person” ganyan dapat! wagi ka jan, AJ! at nakisama ako sa standing ovation para sa yo jan.
joel: ang suplado nung “Do you make friends in the bathhouse?” “Nooo!” LOL.
“common anxieties …not inevitable, not that bad, not necessarily for gay men.” truth! masyado lang tayong self-flagellating in general. drama queens, indeed!
shet!!! beer on the beach, under the stars on a good friday with friends. panalo!
e kumusta naman, joel, yung pinu-push mo na malibugan si gibbs sa resort boys? pasaway! LOL.
ako, MGG, pwedeng mag-substitute sa counselling sa kanila when u’re busy. basta bring a bottle of wine.
gibbs: bodily fluids to bodily fluids… hindi pwede! play safe! always!
enjoyed the episode immensely, Fabcasters! ang saya nyo.. pero i’m sure mas masaya ang episode pag kami ang nag-guest! (ipilit?!?!?!)
