John Lloyd and Luis

(From Yahoo/PhilStar) The “intimate scene” between Luis Manzano and John Lloyd Cruz as lovers in Star Cinema’s In My Life was finally shot last week on the Brooklyn Bridge, with the breathtaking Manhattan skyline as backdrop.

“Feel na feel nila ‘yung eksena,” reported Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent Edmund Silvestre (of The Filipino Reporter), “very realistic, which simply means that Luis and John Lloyd are good actors because, as everybody knows, pareho silang straight.”

The movie, directed by Olive Lamasan and also starring Vilma Santos (Luis’ mom playing his mom), is Luis’ most challenging. But whether or not he will finally join the ranks of John Lloyd, Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Sam Milby, Richard Gutierrez and Dingdong Dantes as big-screen leading men will be known when the film hits the theaters in September.

  11. I see this being tracked on the top news of Yahoo Philippines. When I read the articles, what disappoints me is that there isn’t much content about the film itself, but more on how a big deal it is for the actors playing such difficult roles. Like readers are being made to really care more about how the actors feel making the film instead of looking at the film. Not even the difficulty of making the film. Or are their roles tremendously difficult to portray because of how distant it is from their real lives.
    “I play a fat woman who owns a cat named Kiki.”
    “I play a filipino gay man in New York.”
    “I play the boyfriend.”

    Is she fat because the son is gay?

    The movie is hyped more like a freak show, when it shouldn’t be.
    See the fat lady.
    See the man that only sleeps with men.

    Cue circus music.

  21. Playing gay men? How difficult is that? I agree with Trev that the spin doctors have hype the movie to being beside the point, and even to irrelevance. As a test of acting skills, they should play a gay man bound to a wheelchair since childhood or simply do Shakespeare. Mag-audition sila sa Repertory Philippines if they have the balls.

  26. we saw them at the brooklyn bridge and when they shot some scenes at central park.. they were both exceedingly handsome, esp luis – laglag panty lol.. i felt like a katulong afterwards hahaha.. i dont really care if they are gay, theyre both good actors (and apparently good persons too) so they deserve whatever success theyre getting right now.. :)
