Fabcast: The Talented Mr. Ripley, Part 2

Love and Dating, Podcasts Entry Feed Trackback

This is the part where Corporate Closet (CC) details the heartbreaking story and climax of the disappearance of his Talented Mr. Ripley. Sad, sad story. Made me think: how can one brain so sharp have a heart so gullible? But then again, what use is a heart that’s exempted from folly? This is a story not just a few can identify with. Listen (16 min 38 sec).

  7. Sometimes, when hooking up through the net, reserve room for cynicism. Hold back on the romance.

Wake up! You haven’t physically met.

  10. You know, I think this ‘mr. ripley’ may be some kind of crazy serial online relationship con artist. I’ve had a similar experience a few years back (a while back… like 9 years ago). His tactics sound a lot like the guy that CC met. His lies were very detailed which to me made them believable. He would also have people pose as his friends and text me (could have all been just him). And when we were supposed to finally meet, he also supposedly got into a car accident which was relayed to me through text by his supposed friend. And the funny thing is, after a few years, I also met another guy who had a similar experience. He met someone online and when they were finally supposed to meet, the guy told him that he got into a car accident as well. I don’t think they ever met in the end as well. As for me, I eventually found out the true identity of my ‘mr. ripley’ (although by that time we were no longer communicating). And then he texted again after a few years still pretending to be that person. I replied and said that this was going to be the last message I send him unless he comes clean. He still pretended like he had no idea what I was talking about. So I never replied and that was finally the end of it. I have a feeling this could be the same guy. If he is, then it turns out he’s even more insane than I thought.
