This morning my Dad was telling me how he lost his phone, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah, and I kinda knew where the story was leading to. Before he even finished, I was on my way to my room and removing the SIM cards from my recently purchased My Phone T22 Duo. Packed up, charged up, here Dad, enjoy. I was smiling. Why? Because aside from being the good son that I am, I was actually itching to get myself another new phone. So on my way back home from work, I detoured to the mall and snagged a shiny new mobile, this time I went branded, and got myself this handsome Samsung Soul B. Oh GAS! (translated: Gadget Acquisition Syndrome) I’m so loving this new phone!

I’m an impulsive buyer, I admit it. Take this for example: I was meaning to buy one of those UMPCs (Ultra-Mobile PCs, those super cheap laptops), justifying to myself that it’s sub-20k (read: dirt cheap for a laptop), and very handy, very mobile, so I can blog anywhere I want. I shopped around, canvassed, and [...]

I shopped around, canvassed, and went home with a MacBook. Hahaha!

Then this other example: I was waiting for a friend at Festival SuperMall one day when I chanced upon this shiny new black cellphone: My Phone T22 Duo. The attraction was about it being Dual SIM — both active at the same time! I thought, it’s a great buy (less than 10k), and I can have 2 SIM cards active at the same time without lugging around 2 separate cellphones. In short, I bought one and I’m using it right this moment.

How do I find it? Is it a worthy buy? Do I recommend you gay gadgeteers to follow my example? (Haha!) Read on.

The Good

First, the phone is built surprisingly solid. It being “brand-less” (My Phone — wtf?) I was expecting a wishy-washy build. But no! It is shiny, shimmering, and solid out of the box (and a bit heavy in my opinion). The buttons aren’t flimsy, even the stainless lining on the sides are pretty well laid in that it doesn’t show icky gaps with the rest of the black matte body. Same goes with the back panel that goes off when you insert the SIM or remove the battery.

Second, it comes with 2 batteries! (I was actually suprised!) It’s my first cellphone that came with an extra battery, free-of-charge.

Third, it’s touch screen. And the stylus has a pretty neat compartment at the bottom-right corner at the back of the phone. Neat.

Fourth, the memory is expandable via a T-Flash memory card. Only with this phone did I discover that T-Flash is the same as MicroSD. Since I had a MicroSD from an old Moto phone, I was able to resurrect it with this phone.

The Not-So-Good

I actually just have one not-so-good thing to say about this cellphone. Its user interface (UI).

It’s quite difficult for me to navigate the menu. While the 2 SIMs have separate SMS inbox, it’s pretty confusing when replying. There were several times I accidentally replied to an SMS received by SIM2 using my SIM1 number. Not good at all.

And because cellphone use is so part of our lives, UI is one the most important things to consider in buying a phone.

My verdict? Look elsewhere.

I’m writing this on a great early Monday morning — and because to think is to create — what a beautiful week ahead! Here are some quick shorts I thought I’d share here.

1. Cinderella — Lea’s back on stage, essaying no less than the fantabulous character Cinderella. I’m watching towards its run’s tailend, and I’d say theater enthusiasts here should watch too. If you are indeed planning to watch (or have already done so), why don’t you join this pa-contest? It will give you a chance to be read by no-less than Miss Lea Salonga herself, with bonus USD$100 if you get picked as the top winner! Go na!

2. I am amazed by the reach of this blog. In three totally unrelated instances the past week, I was surprised to find out how this blog has reached places and people’s consciousness I’ve never thought possible. One of these was in a party somewhere high up there and posh in Makati, this girl friend (who didn’t know I was MGG’s author) started talking about blogs. I was just listening, feigning indifference. Then she segued to gay blogs. Ohhh was I listening very intently. Then suddenly she said, “Gay blogs? Top of mind, Manila Gay Guy… my gay friends and I check it out regularly and ogle at those featured men!” (And I thought my blog’s differentiator was its wide spectrum — posts ranging from banal to intellectual… eh yung mga lalake lang pala tinitingnan nila! Hahaha!)

3. As I’ve said, MGG is celebrating its 2nd anniversary on the 28th. I was thinking of changing the look of this site, para maiba naman. Anyone out there who can help me do a Wordpress theme renovation? Give me a holler!

4. Online orders have been pouring in for the 2nd edition of Climax magazine — more than 50 orders have been received here at MGG (from all over the globe, take note!) I’m inundated with processing the orders and I’ve actually asked someone to help me out especially with the payment processing and shipping. Karir pala itu! I have only a limited copies so we shall process shipping in the order the payment is received. All who have placed orders, let’s just communicate through email.

5. With this post I’m welcoming my shiny new MacBook to my blogging world — hay, sarap ng may bagong gadget! Hehehe! Next na pag-ipunan, ang bagong iPhone 3G from Globe!

Have a great week everyone! And don’t forget — WORLD PEACE!

Hello, hello, halloween time is over, so the next big season is… CHRISTMAS! Yahooo! And, christmas shopping craze is here again. I’m starting to conceptualize my gifts for friends and family this year… some ideas in mind at the moment:

1. DVD - I’m dying to get a hold of Shortbus – it’s an urban drama-comedy that follows a varied group of seven people, among them a dominatrix and a sex therapist, as they navigate between the paths of sex and love in modern day New York City. It should be perfect for my gay and girl friends!

2. CD – hmmm… I’ll go for the recorded literary readings like this:

3. Food stuff - this one is the easiest, and if I go lazy doing Christmas shopping I may just go this route! And if I do, I would probably go for Becky’s Kitchen — I super love their crinkles and almond-cherry brownies. They are the finest I’ve tasted, and the sweetness is just right.

4. Books - I have lots of books in my mind… for friends who are more into pop fiction, maybe a Paulo Coelho would suit well.

5. Gadgets - electronic gadgets as gifts? Well, as long as they are pretty enough, and they fit my budget!

Now let me think more… and hey, if you have more ideas, leave a comment! Thanks, and good luck to you and Christmas shopping list as well!

The Excuse Box is no ordinary key tag. Its onboard memory holds 10 full minutes of environmental effects designed specifically to befuddle your annoying caller. Click on the links below, and imagine yourself gleefully escaping from an otherwise awkward and potentially trouble-filled phone call.

I only hope we can buy this gadget here in Manila too.

Forget what you know about gays always buying the latest fashions. A recent study shows it’s their desire for the latest gadgets that really defines their spending habits. According to Simmons Market Research Bureau, gays and lesbians are more likely than most adults to have the latest gadgets that technology has to offer and will usually buy them regardless of cost. And why Apple? Because they are the only company that produces consistently sleek, cool, and most of all, FABULOUS, gadgets!

Here’s some cool Apple-related gadgets that are subject to gay gadgeteer lust:

1. the red iPod Nano: the iPod that not only plays good music but fights AIDS as well!

2. the pink iPod tie — to carry and match your Nano. If you’re looking for a convenient place to carry that iPod nano, the Pink Commuter tie is for you, that is, if you don’t mind looking slightly fey wearing pink. Actually, this 100% silk tie is available in red and navy for metrosexuals, in addition to pink for all you others. The tie has a special loop that keeps all those wires in check, and it looks like you could run the wires up behind your tie and underneath the collar of your shirt, discreetly poking out the back on their way to your earbuds. So if you’re forced to wear that coat-and-tie monkey suit all day, might as well take advantage of it with a great place to hide your tunes. From Thomas Pink for $85.

3. the MacBook Pro: my ultimate laptop crush. Powered by a 2.0 or 2.16GHz dual-core Intel engine. Up to five times the speed of the PowerBook G4. Eight times the graphics bandwidth. With built-in iSight for instant video conferencing on the move. Front Row with Apple Remote to dazzle everyone in the room.
