Manilagayguy, congratulations! Time was so fast, you’re too old na. Like me, I’ll be turning 2 this November living here in London. You’re a part of my daily life. Even I’m here I used to be updated diyan sa Pilipinas because of your blog. It’s my stress relief, a teacher and a friend. May you have more years to come… at this time, I am inviting and hoping I can meet your group — Fabcasters and you of course soon when I will be having my vacation. Mwah! World Peace!
Hi MGG. I have been reading your blog for some time now. It’s something I look forward to read everytime, everywhere. It’s bookmarked on my mobile you see. So it’s rather convenient to browse in dull lull moments which as of late my life has gotten an attraction to. Keep the writing up and the writer’s flavor-of-the-second’s pants down. [Poik]

I need an answer po. Thank you very much. [Trike, 15]

Hi there Migs! I’m an avid MGG reader! (Actually pati podcasts mo dina-download ko.) And take note, hindi naka-block yung site mo (I’m here in Abu Dhabi, UAE). I am a bit confused now! Kasi before I truly believed that same-sex relationship can last and that long-distance relationships can survive. Unfortunately, last night I received a text message from my bf (my ex now) that he has found another one. It turned my world upside down! I was full of despair, hatred, disappointment, anger. I felt cheated! It’s too painful that I don’t know how to gain back my self-respect. [Abu9202]

Migs,

I want to give my reaction to your podcast entitled Homosexuality and Religion. I am a person struggling with same-sex attraction (SSA) but I don’t consider myself gay in the sense that I’m not into the gay lifestyle now. I may have been before but that was a totally different story. And oh yes I still struggle with chastity issues right now and that’s how real it can get.

I just want to reiterate that the Catholic Church does not condemn me or you for being “gay”. In fact, the Catholic Church has an apostolate catering to people with SSA and it is called Courage. You can visit www.couragerc.net for more details. And yes I am a member of that organization.

Our group is a support group and we help each other live a chaste life. We don’t claim that sooner or later we will all become heterosexuals, etc. Nothing of that sort. Instead, we are responding to God’s call to live a life of chastity and that means for many of us turning away from the gay lifestyle and confronting our deepest issues as courageously as we can be.

Honestly that is the most difficult part for us – renouncing our sinful ways and letting the Lord take control. It’s hard and it’s real. It’s not easy but it is possible Migs.

I must admit too that some priests and religious are not well aware of our condition and we’re doing something to educate them and all people concerned regarding the nature of homosexuality. During the podcast I realized that many had this perception that the Church is persecuting gay people and the result is either they break away from the Catholic Church or just become nominal Catholics. This is a sad reality.

I hope you can give space for this brief e-mail of mine in your popular blog. Although I can see that you’re very much into the gay lifestyle now, I on my part would like to know your personal views about dealing with ex-gay ministries like ours. Maybe you may want to take a look on the “other side” and let’s see what happens next. I hope to get your side and your readers as well regarding this issue. Thank you.

God loves us all,
GS – or “Going Straight”

* * *

Through email, I asked my fellow Fabcasters their short and sweet reactions to the above email. Here are their replies:

“I’d rather hop-skip-and-jump”

So this is an organization of gays who want to remain in the Church and therefore will toe the Church’s chastity and celibacy line. (Good god, nosebleed and pimples galore!) Seriously, it’s one way to go about it. It’s an option, a route that a gay individual can choose to take. So good luck to those who take it; may their lives be meaningful to them. As for me, if that’s the road less traveled then I’d rather hop-skip-and-jump along the yellow brick road in my shiny, shimmering splendid shoes. [McVie]

“At Hinimay Ni Bakla (Ako-Dot-Com)”

I am having difficulty reconciling his statements. So I will ask some questions based on his email:

1) For GS, is same-sex attraction different from homosexuality?

2) What exactly is a gay “lifestyle” (if there really is such a thing)?

3)His email address and name states “Going Straight” but he does not consider himself gay. So what is he exactly and how does this reconcile with “we don’t claim that sooner or later we will all become heterosexuals”?

4) So if the Catholic Church is not condemning anyone for being gay (from 2358 of the official Catechism of the Catholic Church, this is stated about homosexuals: “They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.”), why are they condemning “homosexual acts” as in the case of that bishop who said that homosexuality should be blamed for the Cebu Canister Scandal victim’s issue? Same goes with the lesbians (Leah Vader and her partner) in the United States who were sent a letter by their parish priest telling them that they are not allowed communion anymore?

5) Is it just me or does his statement, “Although I can see that you’re very much into the gay lifestyle now “sound too judgmental?

Also, he mentioned that during the podcast many broke away from the Church as a result of persecution of being gay. May I reiterate that the reason why I, and many others out there, broke away from this church (and religion in general) not because of this perceived persecution but because of issues with principles and morality being forced and hammered onto us. [AJ Matela]

Whatevurrr

I will just echo what we have been saying all along. Whatever makes you happy. If going celibate brings you the inner peace that you are looking for then by all means go ahead and go for it (just don’t get all preachy to me and give me the same token of respect and respect my option not to go a similar path). [Tony Lobster]

Migs Replies

Dear Going Straight,

I can feel your sincerity in struggling against, renouncing what you call “our sinful ways” and letting God take control. I am impressed with your strength of will and I can only wish you the best in the process. And as long as your choices and struggles help make you a better, greater person — someone who cares more, loves more, gives more, contributes more, and at the end of the day, still smiles more — I will give you my utmost and well-deserved respect.

I was not able to stop it. I was trying to hold the topic off as long as I could but it was no longer possible. I had to give in. The podcast has been recorded. The topic: “Religion and the Gay Guys” errr… maybe this title here is better: “Homosexuality and Religion — how do you reconcile them?”

This has got to be the the podcast with the most number of people in attendance. The whole Fabcaster gang was present (Gibbs, McVie, Tony, CC, AJ, and moi) plus guests Dennis, James, and Senan (AJ’s boyfriend). Nine folks gabbing so this is indeed a riot — but because of the topic, I’d say this one is among the most substantial podcast we’ve recorded. That being said, I invite you: listen to this podcast, reflect and genuflect, and comment away answering the million-dollar question: how do you reconcile your homosexuality and your religion?

“Real issue in video is gay sex.” – Cebu Priest

The article (excerpt only, copied from McVie): For an official of the Roman Catholic Church, the commission of a homosexual act is the real issue behind the rectal surgery in Cebu City that exploded into a scandal on YouTube.

Msgr. Achilles Dakay, spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Cebu, Wednesday said the doctors and nurses who had made fun of an anesthetized male patient in the operation room of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and uploaded a video of the surgery on YouTube should not be blamed solely for the scandal.

“We are asking everyone not to forget or to bypass the main issue: the wrong act of a guy with another man,” Dakay said in an interview over the Church-run Radio Veritas. “People are not talking about what happened before the operation—the homosexual act that was done very badly.”

What do you guys think? The normal reaction would be to lambaste the priest for his opinion. I encourage you to focus on the statements or the issue at hand. Is it right to say that the “real issue in the video is gay sex?” Is this even logical? Share your intelligent opinion guys.

* * *

Naughty, not raunchy, sabi ko nga.

Siyempre, may pakialam ako.

All in all

World Peace nga di ba?

Salamat.

Mark G., an MGG habitué, sent in a heart-warming email today:

Hi Migs, I have been a loyal fan of your site for several months now. A gay friend introduced your site last year, and since then I have been going to your site almost everyday. It has become a daily routine together with my email checking. I sometimes leave comments on your featured stories. What I like about your articles is they are decent, not vulgar, and professional. I continue to promote your site to my friends.

Thank you, Mark. Yes, while MGG is a gay blog, I try my best to make it decent and respectable. I feature lots of men, sexy men, hunky men, sizzling hot men, but I make it a point to observe some limitations so that it won’t hurt the majority’s sensibilities. I always tell my friends who tease me about my features on half-naked men — MGG is sometimes naughty but never raunchy.

Recently, through the lead of Baklang AJ, I discovered a new but high-potential blog, which I believe has the same sensitivity as MGG. It is both well-designed and well-written by a gay blogger named Vince. He calls his blog the Discreet Manila Blog:

Discreet Manila is a discreet gay guy’s look into the various venues, outlets, activities in and around Metro Manila that people like him can check out. This includes a look at gay-oriented venues, blue film reviews, tips and stories in discreet cruising, and discussion about various issues facing the discreet gay person.

So MGG habitués, go visit Discreet Manila and spread your message of World Peace to our kapatid sa pananampalataya, Vince. More power to us gay bloggers and blog enthusiasts!

PLUS PAHABOL… (this is the chika part)

I was kinda quiet with recent developments in my lurve life, then “Foot in the Mouth Disease”-stricken CC, my dear CEO-blogger-friend so funnily spills the beans in his latest post. Go read the secret chika.

Ang tataray ng mga fez! Hahaha!

By the way, the same evening when I took these photos, I was with these folks, and Misterhubs (with his hubby) — we watched Daybreak naman. Siyempre starstruck ako, being able to rub elbows with my idol lawyer-blogger. He’s such a nice guy, and seeing him with his hubby — an inspiring sight!

and then a reader shares…

Back to the topic, the movie Ang Lihim Ni Antonio. I received a rather lengthy comment from a previous post — an MGG reader, Patrick, shares his thoughts regarding his identification to the movie’s plot. Read on…

* * *

(Thanks to reader Patrick for sharing! Good luck sa hinahanap mo!)
