Of love, the internet, and LDR

Letters, Love and Dating 16 comments

Hi Migs. Call me Ethan. This is the first time I’m writing your site, but have been an avid reader of yours since 2006. It has been a source of comfort and relief for me, knowing that I’m not alone in my struggles in this world. Anyway, the reason I’m writing is because I too have a problem. I think I’m in love, for the first time in my life. Let me explain.

It started almost two weeks ago. I ‘met’ him, of all places, in a porn site. He saw my profile, messaged me, asked me for my MSN, and the rest, as they say, is history. At first, we chatted irregularly, once every few days or so. On 17 August, however, everything took a turn for the better. We started messaging each other more; sometimes we’d last anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, just sitting and sending each other messages. I became enamored with him; everything about him was perfect! We had the same interests: history, politics, books, and all this for a guy who was 18 (I’m 19). We even shared some interesting commonalities; he and I are both altar boys, we both come from big families, and we are both firmly planted in the closet. In no time at all, I think we became too sweet to each other — and we’ve never even met!

The trouble started a few days ago.

Happy 2nd!

Migs Speaks 42 comments

Today, MGG turns two years old!

TWO is such a small number, but for MGG, TWO means…
… 1,085 total posts
… 30,700 total comments
… 1,000,000+ page loads per month*
… 191,000+ unique visitors per month*
… #1 Community / Groups blog (Philippine Top Blogs)
… #17 in Top Philippine Blogs according to Alexa (August 2008, published by PMT)

but really, for me, the following numbers are more important:

For MGG, TWO is ONE – unity in diversity! Despite the differences, world peace pa rin!
For MGG, TWO is INFINITY — because the love you dear readers have showered on MGG is priceless! Thanks to all who sent it their greetings — some coming all the way from America and Africa! Salamat, salamat! (Text messages after the jump.)

Blogging Shorts

Events, Gadgets, Migs Speaks, Miscellaneous 7 comments

I’m writing this on a great early Monday morning — and because to think is to create — what a beautiful week ahead! Here are some quick shorts I thought I’d share here.

1. Cinderella — Lea’s back on stage, essaying no less than the fantabulous character Cinderella. I’m watching towards its run’s tailend, and I’d say theater enthusiasts here should watch too. If you are indeed planning to watch (or have already done so), why don’t you join this pa-contest? It will give you a chance to be read by no-less than Miss Lea Salonga herself, with bonus USD$100 if you get picked as the top winner! Go na!

2. I am amazed by the reach of this blog. In three totally unrelated instances the past week, I was surprised to find out how this blog has reached places and people’s consciousness I’ve never thought possible. One of these was in a party somewhere high up there and posh in Makati, this girl friend (who didn’t know I was MGG’s author) started talking about blogs. I was just listening, feigning indifference. Then she segued to gay blogs. Ohhh was I listening very intently. Then suddenly she said, “Gay blogs? Top of mind, Manila Gay Guy… my gay friends and I check it out regularly and ogle at those featured men!” (And I thought my blog’s differentiator was its wide spectrum — posts ranging from banal to intellectual… eh yung mga lalake lang pala tinitingnan nila! Hahaha!)

3. As I’ve said, MGG is celebrating its 2nd anniversary on the 28th. I was thinking of changing the look of this site, para maiba naman. Anyone out there who can help me do a Wordpress theme renovation? Give me a holler!

4. Online orders have been pouring in for the 2nd edition of Climax magazine — more than 50 orders have been received here at MGG (from all over the globe, take note!) I’m inundated with processing the orders and I’ve actually asked someone to help me out especially with the payment processing and shipping. Karir pala itu! I have only a limited copies so we shall process shipping in the order the payment is received. All who have placed orders, let’s just communicate through email.

5. With this post I’m welcoming my shiny new MacBook to my blogging world — hay, sarap ng may bagong gadget! Hehehe! Next na pag-ipunan, ang bagong iPhone 3G from Globe!

Have a great week everyone! And don’t forget — WORLD PEACE!

The Bakla Review on Climax 2

Books and Literature 16 comments

How long ago was the release of the first Climax photo book? The makers sure took their time with the second one. X-Ray Media, which also publishes the “X-Ray” titles, are by now the masters in assembling flavors-of-the-moment Filipino men for portfolios of impeccable quality and steaminess. Photography, styling, design, packaging — all ace. Testicles, shafts, asses, pubic hair — present and in abundance. Only the cockheads are missing… You’d be hardpressed to find their bodies worshipped in richer textures. Like the first edition, Climax 2 is a beautiful celebration of flesh. It feels like a liberation by way of objectification. [Source]

For those outside the Philippines who are asking if I can help ship you a copy — I can try, but I would say the cost will be prohibitive (e.g., FedEx shipping to US costs approximately USD$30). [The most wise would be to have just 1 person in the US to buy in bulk and be the one to ship to the others who want to buy. Any volunteers?] Is it worth it the money and the shipping fees? I don’t know, only you, the one spending can make that judgment. I have my copy, just like “The Bakla Review,” and I’m surely not complaining. Hehehe!

The World is for the Bold and Daring

I break tradition –
sometimes my tries
are outside the lines.
We’ve been conditioned
to not make mistakes,
but I can’t live that way

Unwritten (by Natasha Bedingfield) is a beautiful song pregnant with a simple yet powerful message. I find it appropriate especially to those whose fears shackle their very potential which is just waiting to be unleashed. Just like what Marianne Williamson said, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?” — so, I say, you go gurrrls! Be yourself and be not afraid to risk, the world is for the taking of the bold and daring!

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten.

Calling all male UP students and alumni! If you think you’ve got what it takes to pose for pictures wearing only a fig leaf, then come apply for a spot in “Hail! UP Oblation!”

You could be chosen as one of the lucky 100 men from all walks of the University who will pose for a photo op on the break of dawn on June 18, replicating the figure of the Oblation monument. Professional photographers from various media organizations, both local and international, will be covering the event, and the best shots will be featured in the UP Centennial Coffee Table Book.

Don’t miss this chance to go down in UP history!

No age or height limit! You just have to have enough guts to show off those abs for all the world to see.

It’s very easy to apply. All we need is a picture of you wearing short shorts or trunks. Apply now!

For inquiries, please email r3nka@yahoo.com

The Blue Unicorn Weeps

Issues, Love and Dating 26 comments

urnexttopmodel-002.jpg The Blue Unicorn is a blogger who just joined our Shining Glitters list at PinoyGayBlogs.com. He just wrote an entry that somehow ties with recent issues being tackled here at MGG. Read his story, lifted from his diary circa 2005, and share with him your thoughts.

* * *

It was about 6 months…6 months which felt like an eternity that I’ve spent with this guy…6 months of pure joy…. we never had any commitments, we were just each others emotional pillow, each others sexual pill…

But those moments abruptly stopped dead one day. And another day. And another day. i tried calling his cellular phone, but my call was rejected. He knew I tried calling. I had hoped for a follow up. But days passed. Weeks passed. A month passed. He just disappeared. Nothing. I don’t know if it was pride or self-preservation that kept me from bugging him. Which up to now, I know was the best thing I did. But my heart, waited. And waited. Like a forlorn lover. It had robbed me my heart. Until I didn’t want to use it anymore. My days went by without any emotions. Parang robbot ba. Kase if I start feeling anything, kahit awa sa officemate ko. I’d just feel pain. Pain together with a picture of his face, forever imprinted on my mind. I would always look at a black car hoping it was him. Every car park. Every road. My heart was mourning for the loss. It was like losing someone in the war, not knowing if he’s alive or not. What happened. And they are all bottled inside this tortured heart.

One day after three months. I saw him sa Alabang Town Center. Inside Tequila Joe’s. The world stopped and all the pain that I had kept inside wanted to burst and bleed inside the restaurant. I was with a group of straight friends. He looked at me across the room.
