The pope’s alleged ‘homophobic attack’

VATICAN CITY (AFP) – - A suggestion by Pope Benedict XVI that homosexuality is as much of a threat to the survival of the human race as climate change sparked outrage among gay rights campaigners on Tuesday. [Source / Photo by Yahoo]

There is no direct quote from Pope Benedict XVI that is clearly homophobic, so I do not think we should take it as a real attack. Knowing the Catholic doctrine though, I am not really surprised that the Pope disapproves of the assumed typical homosexual lifestyle. It’s Christmas, and today more than ever, I pray that the pope is blessed with the grace of universal love. And I pray for us all for the same thing. May we all learn to love everyone regardless of age, gender, and race. Being anti-anything is so yesterday. Love, love, love. And gratitude. World Peace!

I Have a Husband… and a Boyfriend

Contribution, Letters, Love and Dating 25 comments

Hello Migs. I have been a subscriber for a couple of years – in fact, when you started your chat box, we got to chat for a bit. I’m from the Bay Area, you told me you lived here for a while. Well, I finally have reason to write you a letter – the title says it all.

Yes, I have been partnered with “Dee” for 10 years now. He’s an American, a lawyer, divorced twice (he thought he was bisexual, but finally came out gay and wouldn’t have anything more to do with women), and have been told that he has Richard Gere looks. I agree. We met when I was still living in Manila and he was visiting for a conference. It was love at first sight, a la Miss Saigon. But like Chris leaving Kim, he left too – only, he came back a year later. (more…)

Bashful’s Little Secret

Issues, Letters 20 comments

Hi Migs,

I’m Bashful, 27, and a reader of your blog for about two years now. I am writing to ask for your opinion about a taboo matter: exhibitionism.

I know, my nickname indicates otherwise, but aside from the risk of being exposed to the rest of the world–especially on the web–I have no problem showing my “baby anaconda” to other guys who are simply horny peeping toms. Blame it on today’s technology; in this decade almost everyone has a digicam, web cam, camera phone, etc. I am not a street flasher, but I have masturbated (or appeared with a hard-on) in internet chat rooms, and in public places such as school, public transport, malls, workplace, etc. (more…)

Religious Reader Reacts

Issues 43 comments

Migs,

I want to give my reaction to your podcast entitled Homosexuality and Religion. I am a person struggling with same-sex attraction (SSA) but I don’t consider myself gay in the sense that I’m not into the gay lifestyle now. I may have been before but that was a totally different story. And oh yes I still struggle with chastity issues right now and that’s how real it can get.

I just want to reiterate that the Catholic Church does not condemn me or you for being “gay”. In fact, the Catholic Church has an apostolate catering to people with SSA and it is called Courage. You can visit www.couragerc.net for more details. And yes I am a member of that organization.

Our group is a support group and we help each other live a chaste life. We don’t claim that sooner or later we will all become heterosexuals, etc. Nothing of that sort. Instead, we are responding to God’s call to live a life of chastity and that means for many of us turning away from the gay lifestyle and confronting our deepest issues as courageously as we can be.

Honestly that is the most difficult part for us – renouncing our sinful ways and letting the Lord take control. It’s hard and it’s real. It’s not easy but it is possible Migs.

Tuli or not tuli

Issues 75 comments

Hey Migs!

It’s only recently that I discovered your site, but I’m now an avid reader of your blogs/posts. Some are encouraging, others are very, very stimulating. Anyway, I wanna share something that may arise some curiosity to our readers.

As we all know, we are in a country that is pre-dominantly catholic. Most often than not, we follow all catholic practices, from our very colorful fiestas, to our mournful holy week, and of course, circumcision (or pagtutuli, in our filipino linggo). Most of the filipino men are circumcised at an average age of 10-12 years old. Aside from it being a religious practice and hygienic practice, it’s usually a “right of passage” for the boys. If you’re circumcised, it’s as if you’re already a full-fledge man and you can do whatever you want. Boys begin to explore how to masturbate, watch porn with their friends (or even older bros), and even compare how one’s circumcised penis is different from the other boys. The deepness of a boy’s voice is often connected if he is already circumcised. The growth spurt is also connected of the boy being circumcised. But how what about an uncircumcised boy? Does he still experience what a circumcised boy is going through? Or does he stay being a “boy” if he stays being uncircumcised?

“Gays Go To Hell!”

Issues 56 comments

If we believe what the traditional Catholic teachings say about people who engage in homosexual acts, then we can conclude that sexually active gays go to hell. (Aba, ang hell pala ay parang isang napakalaking Malate, or Puerto Galera during Holy Week! Hehehe!). Well, here’s a sharing by a young MGG reader about his reflections on sprituality and homosexuality. Read on and feel free to share your thoughts as well.

Hi Migs,

Before proceeding to the real purpose of this email, I would like to begin by introducing myself as Drew. I am a junior at the Ateneo de Manila University. Though I’ve probably known about my homosexuality since I could remember, I have only come to a deeper acceptance and understanding of it over the past 2 years. You see, I come from a religious and spiritual family which is probably why I gave, and am still giving, a great importance to dealing and coming into terms with my issues about being homosexual vis-a-vis my religion, more so, my relationship with God.

Introductions aside, I emailed you because it has come to my attention how the topic of the homosexual act being viewed as a sin is touched, discussed, and reacted to by many of your subscribers and our fellow gay brothers/ sisters.

“Real issue in video is gay sex.” – Cebu Priest

Corporate Closet Reacts to Anoverz

Issues, Love and Dating 20 comments

My dear friend CC (for Corporate Closet) reacts to the Anoverz post, my first-ever mostly Tagalog post here in this blog. For those who have not read it, read it here — it’s about my “foolish” idealism on exclusivity in gay relationships. I thought reaction post was too well-written and insightful not to be republished here. So, here.

helo migs. kulang pa kasi yung comment ko dun sa Anovers post mo.

to those who havent read it, Anovers is migs angst-ridden (hihi), lalim na tagalog post on open relationships. he seems so frustrated that there seems to be nobody out there who shares his ideals of monogamy and exclusivity. (i remember a drunk and distraught joan cusack, in a wedding dress, shouting “is everybody gay” in what was probably the most hilarious part of the movie ‘in & out’!!!)

From Gibbs of GibbsCadiz.com:

“Unique” and “one-of-a-kind” are descriptions often used for anything and everything nowadays, thereby ensuring that the words lose their potency in the end, becoming only the opposite of what they mean. But “unique” and “one-of-a-kind” remain forceful words when applied to ManilaGayGuy, because this is a blog that has remained an original — in content, in tone, in presentation, in wit, in intelligence and style — since it was launched one year ago. There is no site out there that comes close to the distinct mix of naughty (but never raunchy), compelling and thought-provoking posts that Migs concocts everyday for his many, many readers. Other gay sites may offer more racy stuff. MGG sticks to the fun, friendly and welcoming. What I like most about MGG is that it never talks down to its readers. It reflects very well on its owner, who is a smart, thoughtful guy who does not take himself too seriously and has sensitivity to spare for others. That’s Migs, and that’s MGG. I am privileged to be a good friend to the person and an occasional contributor to this blog (via the Troikasters podcasts). Congratulations and happy anniversary, MGG!

Four Things I Cannot Decide For You

Issues, Love and Dating, Migs Speaks 19 comments

I was talking on the phone with an elderly (mid-40s) gay guy last night. Two girl friends were just too excited for me to have another “long term relationship” so they paired me up with this “tall, subtle, good looking, and very intelligent” friend of theirs (description theirs). It was a breath of fresh air, really. It’s so wonderful to talk to such learned man, so experienced, and so full of wisdom. While on the phone, I was like a young boy eager to learn, listening and sitting at his master’s feet.
