Manila Gay Guy

I was in Los Angeles, California recently. (Yup, it was a business trip.) Stayed in a grand suite fit for royalty in one of the most expensive hotels in the area, and for the whole duration of my stay had a limo and personal chauffeur at my beck and call. Every night, the hotel manager attempted to impress me by sending in complimentary VIP accouterments to my suite: flowers and fruits one time, red wine on another, chocolates and fine candies on yet another, etc. I dined and wined with executives of a number of top multinational companies in the US, so that meant nothing less than chef-prepared, fine gourmet stuff. All luxury, fancy and fabulous.

Does gayness define you?

I have been busy travelling the past days, all for my day job in the corporate world. The other side of being busy travelling is lots of idle time in airports and in airplanes; during those idle times my mind becomes extra-reflective, meaning I get to have the luxury of pondering on things I normally take for granted.

Out of the blue, this question popped in my head — does gayness define me? There are 2 ways I attack apparently difficult questions like this: by looking inside, and by looking outward. I looked outward first. (more…)

Dear Jake,

Your name sounds so lovely. You know, back in high school, when I was just starting to discover my tendency to prefer boys over girls, my first crush’s name was Jake too. Jake, Jake, Jake. Your name reminds me of fresh flowers wet with dew, in a lazy humid weekend morning. Now, you are the second Jake that made my heart squirm a bit, and skip a beat.

I saw you in person one time. I was in a smoking area in GMA. And while I was puffing the magic dragon, you magically appeared right before me. While I played dead-ma, I knew then that I will never ever forget that moment. I didn’t know you smoked. But I was glad you did, and even borrowed my lighter. Oh, that was heaven.

When I look at you I feel young again. So thank you. Your images will remain etched in my mind, and I become young again.
