Dose: Disturbing, Very Disturbing.

Movies and Music 21 comments

When I watched Joel Lamangan’s premiere showing of “Walang Kawala” at UP Film Institute last week, there was a film trailer that was shown prior to the main feature. It was entitled “Dose.” I’d say it’s the most disturbing film trailer I’ve ever seen in my life. Here’s why — an excerpt on a feature article on the movie Dose.

One of the much-awaited entries in the forthcoming Cinema One Originals digital film fest is Dose, which promises to stir a lot of controversies. This movie marks Senedy Que’s directorial film debut after being a screenplay writer of several films, the latest of which is I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust and Love You).

“Ang pinaka-theme naman ng movie, tipong love knows no gender,” sabi pa ni Senedy Que.

Walang Kawala – SRO Premiere Night!

Movies and Music 30 comments

Walang Kawala Screening - SRO I was at last night’s Director’s Cut screening of Joel Lamangan’s Walang Kawala at the UP Film Institute. It was a mostly (~90%) gay men crowd, and as a friend said, “ansaya ng get together!” Another friend quipped, “ansarap ng feeling kapag nasa crowd ka na overpowered ng bading ang mga straight!”

Why was “Walang Kawala” such a hit? I think the promo photos did it. And the buzz about Marco Morales‘ two-time frontal exposure. The movie itself was palatable enough, in fact Emilio Garcia as the contravida had really funny scenes, such a welcome comic relief to the suspense/thriller that the film was suposed to be.

Joseph Bitangcol sheds his teenybopper image and goes sizzling sexy in Joel Lamangan’s Walang Kawala!

Synopsis: Joaquin (Polo Ravales), an unassuming fisherman, is forced to confront his homosexuality when his sex-starved wife Cynthia (Althea Vega) returns from her overseas job eager to get pregnant. His young and impulsive lover, Waldo (Joseph Bitangcol), flees to Manila in disgust. After a month of hesitation, Joaquin leaves his wife to follow Waldo. His search takes him on a seamy yet colorful trip through Manila’s gay underbelly. Emilio Garcia, vintage hunk

vin·tage [vin-tij]
–noun
1. an exceptionally fine wine from the crop of a good year.
2. representing the high quality of a past time: vintage cars; vintage movies.
3. old-fashioned or obsolete: vintage jokes.
4. being the best of its kind: They praised the play as vintage O’Neill.

A hunk of the yesteryears, Emilio Garcia can (in my opinion) still pass as yummy to a lot of us here… may asim pa rin ang lolo.

More pictures ahead. (more…)
