Scared That The World Would Know

Letters, Migs Speaks 28 comments

Dear Migs,

Let me start by saying how confused I am right now. Just call me Boy. I admit that I have learned to accept who I am years ago, so I thought. I’m a straight-acting bisexual, In fact, meron din akong circle of gay and bi friends and as far as I recall, minsan ginagawa akong escort ng mga gay friends ko, kunwari boyfriend nila ako, just for the sake of fun. I’ve had previous relationships with the same sex too, but as years passed by deep inside, I realize that that was not what I wanted or something like that. Then I guess that was the start of a struggle, an inner struggle, which I find most difficult to cope with. Suddenly may fear ako naramdaman, fear of discrimination, fear na mapahiya because sa mundo ginagalawan ko presently hindi declared my other side. Why I didn’t tell them in the first place? I really don’t know… (more…)

Sherwin Ordońez Sans Undies

Cute Boys, Movies and Music 22 comments

A review of Bertubin’s Kurap (Blink):

“If you don’t want to be used, if you don’t want to be duped … don’t ever blink!” Ronaldo Bertubin’s feisty, street-beat melodrama is wise to all the risks in a dodgy district like Quiapo in Manila. Small-time crook Ambet and his sister Luchie live in an abandoned building. A high proportion of Ambet’s dubious earnings goes on treatment for Luchie’s glaucoma, and he tries to shield her from exposure to his varied sex-life (women and men) and his line of work. But when middle-class photojournalist Marlon comes calling with a proposition that Ambet should rat on his buddies in the criminal underworld–for the sake of TV news reports which will inevitably lead to police busts–the money doesn’t quite explain why Ambet agrees. Calendar of Events Now Online!

Announcements 1 comment

ManilaGayGuy.com’s Events Calendar is now online! It features gay-related events in Manila (and sometimes outside Manila, within the Philippines) ranging from movie premieres, indie or otherwise, parties, launches, sales, exhibits, etc. — as long as they are of interest to Manila’s gay population, it can be included here. While it occupies a prominent individual page, a mini-version of the calendar is also posted at the sidebar of this blog. Lookey-lookey at the right sidebar and hover your cursor over the calendar to see the events on specific dates. Click on the dates to see details of the events.

For event organizers, or just anyone who would like to have gay-interest events posted here, simply write me an email [manilagayguy(AT)gmail(DOT)com] or send me a message through the contacts page. Please do not forget the event title, event date(s), and venue. This is another public service brought to you by Migs the Manila Gay Guy – charoz! World Peace, you all!

Quicktrip by Cris Pablo

Movies and Music 9 comments

When it comes to intelligent movie reviews with a gay slant, I leave it to The Bakla Review (TBR). He gives the movie an A-minus rating, which for me says I got to watch the movie. (And I thought I won’t ever watch a Cris Pablo movie again after surviving that harrowing “SEB: Cybergame of Love” movie he premiered at Cinemalaya.) Here’s what TBR has to say about Cris Pablo’s Quicktrip (formerly entitled “Quickie”):

The scenes are breezy, observant, and direct, some of the best in Pablo’s ouvre, or in any of the gay movies this year, with brisk editing and the wistfulness of Isha’s minimalist music. There’s not much actual sex or nudity, but the director’s original cut (one you can’t see in commercial theaters) includes an onscreen cumsh*t by Andro Morgan. Seemingly simple, with a soulful core, Quicktrip has magic.

Year-end Reflection 2007

Migs Speaks 12 comments

reflection.jpg

Like what I said in my year-end reflection last year, it has been my regular practice to go back and reflect on past events, always in search of lessons I could learn from such happenings. I am again sharing with you some year-end thoughts, 3 things I will try to keep in mind as we enter 2008 — (1) something that I want to sustain and continue; (2) something I want to improve on and extend; and lastly, (3) something new I want to explore and emerge in my life. As I share these, I also wish that you likewise spend some year-end reflection time — may we all live a happy and meaningful life!
