Sherwin Ordoñez is making a sexy comeback by way of “Kurap,” a film directed by Ronnie Bertubin, director of gay film “Sikil.”

“Kurap” will have its premiere night (Director’s Cut) on November 8 (Sat) 7 PM at Cine Adarna in UP Diliman, QC. Regular showing in Robinsons theaters start on November 12, Wednesday.

If the Western has the Wild West with its cowboys, the Macho Dancer Movie nestles within the dark walls of the Gay Bar with its cast of gyrating, undressing male performers. Macho dancers are not to be confused with the callboy/common prostitute or the torero/live sex performer, although they can be those too. The Macho Dancer’s weapon is his particular brand of striptease. And just as the Western is American and the Samurai film Japanese, the Macho Dancer Movie is quintessentially Filipino. Is there any country other than the Philippines that can fill a top ten list of macho dancer movies with a few extra to spare? In these films, the plight of a people are played out via intermittent seductive numbers, like a musical, but hotter, where the thongs usually come off. Herewith, the zarzuelas of our time.

His young and impulsive lover, Waldo (Joseph Bitangcol), flees to Manila in disgust. After a month of hesitation, Joaquin leaves his wife to follow Waldo. His search takes him on a seamy yet colorful trip through Manila’s gay underbelly. He discovers Waldo’s dangerous flirtation with Rufo (Emilio Garcia), a bisexual rogue cop who holds the clue to Waldo’s disappearance. UP Film Institute screens for a week-long full run Joven Tan’s Paupahan and Patrick McGuinn’s Sun Kissed beginning this Monday, 6 October 2008.

Produced by ATD Entertainment of star Allen Dizon, Paupahan is one of the recent films from one of the few truly active auteurs of current cinema in the country. Photographed by “National Artist material” Romy Vitug and written by Dennis Evangelista, the dramatic film (Graded B by the Cinema Evaluation Board) interweaves three unrelated plots involving inhabitants of a slum area next to a cemetery. With Allen in the powerhouse cast are movie queen Gloria Romero, German “Kuya Germs” Moreno, Jay Manalo, Snooky Serna, Angelu de Leon, Krista Ranillo, Joseph Bitangcol, Kirby de Jesus.

Packing audiences in with the intimate setting of the UP Film Institute’s Videotheque is the back-to-back exhibition of a twinbill of digital features from director Adolfo Alix Jr. Daybreak and Imoral—two of the year’s most intriguing and much-talked about releases both no less about intimacy—continue their screen run till this Saturday, 4 October 2008.

Written by Charliebebs Gohetia, Daybreak stars Coco Martin (he of Masahista fame) and Paolo Rivera (he of Live Show). Written by Gerry Gracio, Imoral is topbilled by Katherine Luna with ramp model-turned-actor Paolo Paraiso and stage mainstay Arnold Reyes.

I bumped into screenwriter Ramon Bayron (Abakada, Ina) and he was ecstatic to share his thoughts on our film “Ang Lihim ni Antonio” (Antonio’s Secret). He liked the existentialism of the material and all. I was surprised that Mr. Bayron liked the film despite him being very religious. And he caught me by surprise by asking a very thought-provoking question.

“Why would God be concerned with men sucking each other’s penises when there are millions of other life-threatening and earth-shaking problems in this world?”
