Here’s a PR-synopsis from the makers of the movie I LOVE DREAMGUYZ:

Synopsis: Five young men land job contracts as entertainers in Japan and form a new hip-hop dance group called Dreamguyz. Guided by their gay manager DIDI (Jao Mapa), they spend the next few months before their trip bonding as friends who share a common dream of finding greener pastures in the Land of the Rising Sun.
MICHAEL (actor) worked as a dancer in Japan when he was still a minor, using a fictitious name and a forged passport. He makes sure his recruiter doesn’t find out he’s not a first-timer to Japan like the rest of the guys. BENJO (actor) seeks to escape a cruel stepfather and find his missing older brother, a musician turned illegal alien in Japan. ALVIN (actor) is Didi’s lover, who openly expresses his affections for his benefactor while hoping to make his own money in Japan.

The two members who share choreographic duties, JAKE (actor) and RICO, quickly develop a secret romance. Problem is, Jake lives with his devoted girlfriend JENNY (Niña Jose), who supports him financially. On top of his romantic quandary, Jake is soon discovered to have a heart ailment, jeopardizing his chances of joining the group’s trip to Japan.

As a former Japayuki himself, Didi knows a stint in Japan hardly guarantees a financial windfall for the group. So he enlists the members in a networking company that has been giving him ample dividends. Unfortunately, the company collapses without warning. It ruins Didi and threatens to dissolve not just his relationship with Alvin but the group itself. Violence erupts on the eve of their trip, which could shatter the dreams of the Dreamguyz.

Trailblazing film outfit DMV Entertainment makes waves again in 2009 with “I Love Dreamguyz,” a sexy, provocative and heartwarming film about the struggles of Filipino dancers who want to make it big in Japan. The main stars are Marco Morales and newcomer Jay L Dizon.

Producer Manny Valera and director Joel Lamangan are happy with the tandem of Marco and Jay L. Direk Joel says, “We really planned on a team-up of a familiar name and a newcomer and we found that in Marco and Jay L. Although it’s their first time to work together, they easily exuded the sexy chemistry and charisma needed for their roles.”

Marco and Jay L play Rico and Jake, respectively, two members of a dance group bound for Japan. While they work closely as choreographers, they unwittingly dance their way into each other’s arms and develop an intimate relationship.

This is the third consecutive time that Marco is part of a DMV Entertainment film. In fact, Marco is in all the movies DMV has produced so far, 2 box-office hits namely “Walang Kawala,” “Heavenly Touch” and now “I Love Dreamguyz.” ‘Direk’ Manny says, “Marco is a true professional. He is a producer’s favorite.”

To prepare, Marco talked to male dancers who’ve worked in Japan before. After three (3) years, Japan is now opening its doors again to dancers who are first timers. “I hope that the market for very talented dancers will still grow. There are many Filipinos who have their own dreams to fulfill,” enthuses Marco.

Meanwhile, Jay L gets “introducing” billing in this very special project. Jay L, a mainstay of TV 5’s comedy show “Ogags” and part of GMA Network’s Starstruck, was one of the many who responded to DMV’s audition-call. To the surprise and delight of the director and staff, Jay L performed a hip hop dance sequence and capped it with an awesome back flip. He also impressed them with his very heartfelt reading of some dialogues in the script.

“Jay L was what we we’re looking for – someone who could act and dance. It was very easy for me and Direk Joel to cast Jay L as Jake, the young and idealistic fellow who wants to achieve financial success so that his girlfriend’s family wouldn’t look down on him,” says Direk Manny.

Trailer of Dreamguyz can now be viewed at you tube. Watch Marco and Jay L and the three other Dreamguyz played by Mhyco Aquino, Miggy Valdez and Sherwin Ordoñez in the sexy dance drama movie of the year! “I Love Dreamguyz” also stars Niña Jose and Jao Mapa as the talent manager Didi. The film opens in theaters in Metro Manila and key cities on November 4.

Love Knows No Age Or Gender

The Bakla Review (TBR), the undisputed expert in Philippine gay film criticism, says of the movie “Dose” –

There’s no nudity, and a “penetration” consummates only towards the end, but Dose is a decidedly sexual journey. It’s the story of a boy’s coming of age, yet the genius of the movie is that it acknowledges the boy’s sexuality as something to be anticipated and inevitable, a thing of the future, but also a tactile presence, already happening… I found it touching, funny, sad, and exhilarating. This is a gay coming of age that’s deeper, braver, edgier than Ang Pagdadalaga Ni Maximo Oliveros (The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros) or Ang Lihim Ni Antonio (Antonio’s Secret).

TBR says more here (a full review), and then in the end gives the film an “A” rating. I missed the movie when it was shown last year, but here’s good news from Senedy Que, the director of “Dose”:

hi. hope all is well … my directorial debut, “Dose,” will have a one-week engagement at Robinson’s Galleria Indiesine July 1 to 7. It stars Yul Servo, Emilio Garcia, and introducing Fritz Arvhie Chavez as the 12-year-old boy at the center of this disturbing tale about love, lust, and loss of innocence … In Dose, love knows no age or gender. senedy que

July 1 to 7, then. See you there.

Marco Morales in “Butas”

Hunks, Movies and Music 118 comments

sml1z9a2881 Another gay indie is showing as early as this January. “Butas” starring Marco Morales, is going to have a special screening on January 12, 7:30 PM at the UP Film Center, UP Diliman, Quezon City. I’ve read the plot and seen the stills — it’s a bit bolder than usual, so I get this feeling that perhaps the filmmakers are showing more to fill some gaps somewhere. But let me suspend judgment until I’ve actually seen the movie. I don’t plan to watch it though until I read the impressions of the reliable and cerebral movie reviewer, The Bakla Review. Pressure! Hehehe! Meanwhile, enjoy the movie’s promo pics featuring bold and daring Marco Morales.
