Never met a man like Aki, never met anyone who doesn’t like Aki. So once again, ladies and gentlemen, I bring you Akihiro Sato.

The 21-year-old Aki, born to Japanese and Portuguese-Italian parents, loves to ride jeepneys and hop on the MRT. “Working in the Philippines allows me to discover new things. The best part about my job is learning about the culture here and meeting the people,” Aki explains why he decided to extend an initially three-month trip indefinitely. “I really want to learn new languages, so I’m taking classes at UP for English and Tagalog, and eventually Theater Arts.” And what better way to absorb all that is Pinoy than through the daily commute. I’m here in Southern California and currently glued on the TV — because while I rarely, rarely watch television, I am religiously following Tyra Bank’s America’s Next Top Model (yes, partner influence, hehehe!). Tonight they reveal the grand winner. Currently, 3 remain, namely Samantha Potter, McKey Sullivan, and Analeigh Tipton. Partner has been rooting for Analeigh since the start, while I was for the wicked and mean Elina Ivanova — but when Elina got eliminated I latched on to McKey Sullivan. Now Analeigh and McKey are head-to-head, with dark horse Samantha on the side. In a couple of hours we’ll see who wins Hang in there, I’ll give updates here. Warning! SPOILERS AHEAD. (more…)

The first time I featured Mikko Untalasco here in Manila Gay Guy, a good friend suddenly turned inquisitive. He claimed he has met the guy before, when Mikko was still fresh from the province (or school, I couldn’t remember) and was working in a coffee shop somewhere along Roxas Boulevard. He, my friend, did not think Mikko would become the sexy model-modelan that he was in those photos.

Interestingly, soon after that feature, I actually met Mikko in a bar in QC, not unknown as hangout for people like us. He struck me as ‘guapo’ in person, although I did feel my gaydar twitch, considering where I met him. Oh but I’m sure he was just having fun with his like-minded model-friends. (more…)

While the world is rejoicing with the victory of Barack Obama, the first US President of African-American descent, I was silently monitoring the gay-related Ballot Measures. In Arizona, Proposition 102 (Ban on Gay Marriage) was being decided on. The measure would amend the state constitution so that only a union between one man and one woman would be valid or recognized as a marriage in the state. In California, a similar measure was also being decided on, called Proposition 8. In Florida too, there was something similar, Amendment 2. All these states were voting Yes or No to Ban Gay Marriage. In all these three states, as of writing, the Yes’s are winning. In Arkansas, people were voting Yes or No to another gay-related issue: Arkansas Initiative 1– Ban on Gay Couples Adopting Children.
