Sharing His Story Through Songs

Contribution, Letters, Love and Dating 9 comments

[This is a contribution from MGG reader named Red. Posting it here, verbatim.]

I’d like to share my own experience, though too long for the viewers’ eyes. This is something unbelievable and could make for a good script for a movie that it could even rival the story of the Brokeback Mountain. Just to find release, I’d like to see it posted in no less than Migs’ site, so that others may be enlightened or inspired, or of whatever purpose it could serve to the readers. More importantly, my story opposes that of the twink-hungry and abusive PLU (gay) teachers’ usual portrayal by the media. Let me do it by way of using Southborder’s famous songs and the songs I’d love to listen to.

A little note to all my readers

Migs Speaks 15 comments

Anyone can be anyone if he so chooses, as long as he owns up to his choices, and takes responsibility for them. I do not believe in being just completely black, or completely white. I like the rainbow — it has so many colors, in fact the whole spectrum — it is beautiful and yet it does not have to be just one color. One thing I like about the community that has gathered around MGG is that it allows for different views among its members. There are certain things I strongly believe in, yet even as the blog owner I do not feel the need to impose; I do not feel that my strong beliefs should be anyone else’s strong belief as well. Thank you all for your openness and understanding.

Do you remember your first pride march?

Announcements, Events 2 comments

[Posting this email I received from Peachy Natividad, an invitation for everyone to participate and support the upcoming 2008 Pride March]

Do you remember your first pride march?

I do. I’m sure we all do. And if you haven’t had the opportunity to participate in one yet, this year’s the perfect time to do so.

This years Pride March is a tribute to our rights, our lives, our loves and our selves. It’s also the celebration of the 10 years of Filipino rainbow pride. It’s a perfect 10 for the success of the past pride marches, and the anticipated one of this year’s. Hence, the theme is A decade of dignity: our rights, our lives, our loves, our selves. (more…)

Honoring A Truly Revolutionary Gay Man

Personalities 17 comments

Val Mante is one truly revolutionary gay man — and this post was written in honor of him. More than 3 years ago, he was at the frontpage of the Inquirer, as one-half of the first married gay couple of the CPP-NPA. Read on.

Reds officiate first gay marriage in NPA

Philippine Daily Inquirer, Feb, 7, 2005

DARE to struggle, dare to win … as married gays. After raiding a few Army camps, two communist guerrillas hid in a forest gorge and fell in love.

Deeply.

That was three years ago. On Friday, under a romantic drizzle in a muddy clearing in Compostela Valley province in Mindanao, Ka Andres and Ka Jose exchanged vows in a heavily guarded ceremony before local villagers, friends from the city and their comrades in arms. (more…)

Bakla, kawawa?

Fun, Issues 84 comments

This article was written by John Lapus. Funny, witty, yet rings true. I so like the ending, so world peace! Taray mo `teh!

* * *

Kawawang bakla.

The Rainbow Connection

Gay Confusion, Issues, Migs Speaks, Movies and Music 16 comments

I’m sure that you have at least once listened to this beautiful, beautiful song: Rainbow Connection, written by songwriters Paul Williams and Kenny Ascher for The Muppet Movie (1979). In the film, it is sung by Kermit The Frog as the Muppets set out to find adventure. The song establishes that Kermit was a thinking frog, and that he has an introspective soul. The songwriters also wanted to show that Kermit would be on this spiritual path, examining life, and the meaning of life.

While listening to Sarah Mclachlan’s version of the song, I was struck not only by the simple yet beautiful melody, but moreso by how it resonated with my gay core. Specifically, towards the end of the song, it talks about these “voices”:

“It went too fast, my friend.”

Love and Dating, Migs Speaks 36 comments

I was walking with a girl friend of mine after lunch yesterday, and we were talking about how drastic the change was in my so-called lovelife. The week before I was all ecstatic and rainbow. Yesterday I was muted and almost gloomy. Being a very good friend, she was trying to be very comforting. Then she said, “Friend, can I tell you something?”

“Sure,” I answered, curious and anticipating.

“I think,” she offers a risky opinion, “you guys went too fast.”

All the while I was being steady in emotion. Even when I was conscious about being too defensive, I said, “Di naman siguro. We were seeing each other for a month before we even went to bed. Yung iba nga, first meeting pa lang, sex na. First meeting pa lang, sila na. We did wait a bit.”

She was visibly confused.

And somehow, I was too. How fast is too fast? How slow is slow enough?

Migs is Officially In Love

Love and Dating 57 comments

Today we took a walk — up the street, and picked a flower and climbed the hill — above the lake. And secret thoughts, were said aloud. We watched the faces in the clouds, til the clouds had blown away –and were we ever some where else you know — it’s hard to say.

Be True, Be the Extraordinary You

Events, Issues 13 comments

The sun rises on a new dawn. Yet few of us realize the debt we owe to those who dwell among us; anonymous, seemingly ordinary, whom destiny brought together to repair, to heal, to save us from ourselves. If evolution can do this for even the smallest creatures, then why not these human beings? And they’re still out there, in the shadows, in the light. We pass them on the street, never suspecting, never knowing. Do they even know yet, that they are bound together by a common purpose, a glaring reality to be extraordinary?” And when destiny does anoint them, how do they hide from it? How long can they dwell in the shadows before either fate or their own flawed humanity draws them out into the light again? And how will they know what awaits them when it finally does?

(Quote above from Heroes, Season 2, Episode 1)

Yes, I believe it in my heart — that if we are courageous enough to be truly ourselves, then we will be able to see our character’s real strengths. And when we see it, if we so desire, we can use it in our journey to be the best that we can be, to be extraordinary.
